PA UC employer verification timeline - been waiting 3 weeks with no update
Hi everyone, I got laid off from my warehouse job 3 weeks ago and filed for PA unemployment right away. My claim shows 'pending' status with a note that says they're waiting to verify my job separation with my former employer. It's been 3 weeks already and nothing has changed. How long does this typically take? My former HR person confirmed they received something from UC but said they sent their response back over a week ago. Is there anything I can do to speed this up? Bills are piling up and I'm getting seriously worried. Thanks for any advice!

The standard timeline is 10-14 business days for employer verification, but with current PA UC backlogs, it's running closer to 3-4 weeks for many people. Make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is pending. The good news is that once approved, you'll receive all back payments you're eligible for. If it goes beyond 4 weeks, you should definitely try contacting UC directly to check if there's an issue with your claim.

•Thanks for the info! I have been filing my weekly claims, so that's good to know about the backpay. Is there any specific reason they might be taking longer with my verification? My separation was pretty straightforward - position eliminated due to budget cuts.

The PA UC system is COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! I waited 6 weeks for my verification and then they had the nerve to ask me for more documentation. When I finally got approved, they only paid me for 4 of the 6 weeks I was waiting because they claimed I didn't complete my work search requirements properly - even though I did EXACTLY what their confusing website said to do!!! Good luck getting anyone on the phone too - that's basically IMPOSSIBLE unless you start calling at exactly 7:59am and keep redialing for an hour straight.

•This happened to my cousin too! They made him wait forever and then denied him for some technicality. The whole system seems designed to make people give up.

I work in HR and can provide some insight. Most employers have 7 days to respond to UC verification requests, but many take longer. Here's what could be happening: 1. Your employer responded, but UC has a backlog processing responses 2. UC sent a follow-up request for more information to your employer 3. There's a discrepancy between your stated reason for separation and your employer's If your HR contact confirmed they responded, you're probably just caught in the processing backlog. Make sure you're meeting all weekly claim requirements (filing on time, completing work search activities, etc.) while you wait. After 4 weeks total, I'd recommend trying to reach UC directly for a status update.

•This is really helpful, thank you! My HR contact did say they responded with "position eliminated due to budgetary constraints" which matches exactly what I put on my application. I guess I'm just stuck in the backlog then. It's just so stressful not knowing when it'll be resolved.

I had a similar issue last month. After waiting for about 3 weeks with no updates, I tried calling UC but couldn't get through to anyone. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually get through to a UC rep instead of getting endless busy signals. I was skeptical at first but it actually worked - got connected to a rep who checked my claim and found that my employer had responded but it was sitting in someone's queue for review. They expedited it after I called. Check out their video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

•I've never heard of this service before. Did it really work? I've been trying to call for days and just get busy signals or get disconnected after waiting on hold.

•Yeah, it definitely worked for me. The PA UC phone system is impossible otherwise. The service basically keeps calling for you and alerts you when it gets through. I was connected within about 30 minutes instead of spending days trying to call myself. The rep I spoke with was able to see exactly where my claim was stuck and manually moved it to the next step.

Anybody know if you have to report severence pay on ur PA claim? I got a 2 week severence package when i got laid off last month but didn't report it cuz i wasn't sure if it counted as income. Now im worried my employer will tell UC about it and ill get in trouble for fraud or somethng.

•This is important - yes, you MUST report severance pay to UC! It can affect your eligibility during the weeks you received it. You should call UC right away to correct this or you could potentially face an overpayment issue later. Different from the original poster's verification question, but definitely needs to be addressed ASAP.

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm on day 22 now, so it sounds like I'm still within the normal timeframe (even though it feels like forever!). I'm going to keep filing my weekly claims and if nothing changes by next week, I'll try using that Claimyr service to get through to someone at UC. Really appreciate all your help and suggestions - this waiting game is so stressful when bills are due!

•That sounds like a good plan. Just make sure you're completing and documenting your required work search activities each week (applying to jobs, attending workshops, etc.). The last thing you want is to finally get approved and then discover you're missing some of those requirements. Good luck!
