PA UC direct deposit timing - just approved but no money yet

So I finally got approved for UC benefits yesterday after dealing with verification issues for almost 3 weeks (my W-2 from my previous employer had my maiden name which didn't match my current ID). The portal says my claim is approved and shows my weekly benefit amount of $487, but I'm not seeing any money in my bank account yet. I set up direct deposit during the application process. How long does it typically take for the first payment to hit your account after approval? Is there anything else I need to do? I've already filed two weekly certifications while waiting for approval.

Congrats on gettin approved! For me it took exactly 2 business days after approval to see the $$ in my account. But that was back in January. Make sure you didnt miss any emails asking for more info.

Thanks! No additional emails so far. Did you receive any kind of notification before the money showed up? Or did it just appear in your account?

The first direct deposit typically takes 3-5 business days after claim approval to process. Subsequent payments are faster (usually 2-3 business days after you file your weekly certification). Make sure your direct deposit information is entered correctly in your dashboard - sometimes people enter routing numbers or account numbers incorrectly, which causes delays. You should also receive an email notification when payment is sent to your bank.

That's helpful, thanks! I double-checked my direct deposit info and it's correct. I'll wait until next week before getting worried.

Good point! Just checked and nothing showing in payment history yet. Just says 'approved' on the main dashboard.

When my claim was approved in March, I had a similar experience. The payment process has a few steps you can track in your portal. First, your weekly certification gets approved, then it shows as "payment in process" in your payment history tab, then it says "payment sent". Only after that will it hit your bank account, which took about 3 business days for me. So if you don't even see it in your payment history yet, that means they haven't started processing it. Give it another day or two before it shows up there. All told, it was about a week from approval to money in my account.

Thank you for breaking that down! I'll keep checking the payment history tab daily.

LOL they approved me in December and I'm still waiting for money... PA UC is a JOKE seriously!! I filed all my weekly claims and NOTHING. Called like 200 times, never get through to anyone. How do people actually get help??

Have you tried using Claimyr to get through to a PA UC agent? I was in a similar situation - approved but no payments for weeks. I kept getting busy signals when calling the regular number. Found this service at claimyr.com that got me connected to a UC rep in about 15 minutes instead of spending days calling. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The rep I spoke with found that my payments were on hold due to an unresolved issue that never showed up in my portal. Got it fixed that same day and had my money a few days later.

dont forget about tax withholding too. I was expecting $512 but only got $460ish cause I checked the box to withhold taxes when I aplied. just mentioning in case ur amount seems off when it finally comes through

Good reminder - I did opt for tax withholding so I expect it'll be less than the full amount.

One more thing to note - for most people, the first payment includes any eligible back weeks. So if you've already filed two weekly certifications while waiting for approval, and both were for eligible weeks, your first deposit might include payment for both weeks combined. This sometimes causes confusion when people see a larger amount than expected.

Oh that's good to know! I was laid off on April 2nd and filed my claim on April 5th, so there should be about 3 weeks of back pay. That would definitely help with catching up on bills.

just curious but did u have to do the id.me verification thing? that was such a pain for me

Yes! The ID.me verification was actually pretty quick for me, but then I ran into the issue with my name not matching. The whole process would have been faster if they'd just asked for all documents upfront instead of requesting one thing at a time.

UPDATE: Just wanted to follow up since I saw your post. Has your payment come through yet? I know waiting for that first deposit can be stressful when bills are due.

YES! It finally came through this morning - took exactly 4 business days from approval. And you were right about the back pay - I got payments for all three weeks at once. What a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!
