PA UC claim stuck with tax agent for 2.5 weeks after legislative involvement - no movement
I'm at my wit's end with this PA unemployment claim nightmare! Filed my initial claim about 10 weeks ago and ran into multiple issues because of my industry (construction contractor). Finally got all those problems straightened out after uploading TONS of documentation. Now my claim is supposedly assigned to a tax agent to overturn a decision about 'not enough credit weeks' - which is completely wrong because I definitely have all the required weeks. The tax agent has had my claim for 2.5 weeks with absolutely ZERO movement. My state rep's office also got involved (it's now a 'legislative claim') but even that hasn't helped speed things up. Every time I call or use the chat, I get the same robotic response: 'it's with an agent'. That's it! No timeline, no explanation, nothing! How can they be so frustratingly slow when people need to pay bills? Has anyone had experience with tax agent reviews or legislative claims? Any advice on how to actually get someone to take action?

Tax agent reviews can take forever unfortunately. I was in a similar situation last year where they questioned my credit weeks even though I had plenty. The problem is that legislative involvement doesn't necessarily speed things up - it just flags your case but the same overworked agents are still handling it. Have you tried specifically asking what documentation they're waiting on? Sometimes they're looking for something specific but don't bother telling you. In my case, I had to provide additional proof of income from a specific quarter they were questioning.

•Thanks for replying. They haven't specified any missing documentation, which is the frustrating part. I've uploaded W2s, 1099s, pay stubs, everything I could think of! When you were waiting on your tax agent review, did calling regularly help at all or should I just stop wasting my time?

did u try calling rite when they open at 8am?? thats what i did and got thru after only like 45 mins on hold. ask for a 'status update' not just checking on ur claim. they hate when ppl just check status lol

•I've tried calling at opening a few times but still get nowhere. Just the same 'it's with an agent' response. What's the difference between asking for a status update vs checking on the claim? I'll try anything at this point!

I work with PA UC issues professionally, and tax agent reviews specifically related to credit weeks are one of the most time-consuming processes. Here's what's happening: The tax agent is likely reviewing ALL of your employment history across your base year, quarter by quarter, to verify each week of work. This is especially complicated for construction contractors with multiple employers or 1099 income. A few things to try: 1. Request a specific callback from a tax agent supervisor (be polite but firm that you need clarification on what's being reviewed) 2. Since it's a legislative claim, contact your rep's office again and ask them to specifically request an estimated completion timeline 3. Ensure you've uploaded ALL tax documents from your base year, not just the most recent ones The legislative involvement actually should help, but only if they follow up regularly. The average tax review takes 3-4 weeks currently, so you're still within normal timeframes unfortunately.

•This is exactly the kind of detailed information I needed! I'll definitely reach back out to my rep's office and ask them to push for a timeline. I didn't realize tax agents look at every single week of the base year - no wonder it takes forever. Is there any specific department or number I should ask for when calling to reach a tax agent supervisor?

OMG they are THE WORST!!! I waited SIX WEEKS with a tax agent review last winter. Six. Freaking. Weeks. And guess what? They were wrong about my credit weeks the whole time! I had exactly what I needed but some dummy put in the wrong employer ID number or something. By the time they fixed it I was almost evicted! The whole system is designed to make people give up.

•Six weeks?! I can't wait that long! This is exactly what I was afraid of - some simple mistake dragging on forever while bills pile up. Did you do anything special to finally get it resolved or did it just magically get fixed one day?

I was having the same issue getting through to anyone at PA UC about my claim that was stuck for weeks. Tried calling hundreds of times with no luck. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent in about 20 minutes! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2. The agent I spoke with was actually able to see exactly what was happening with my tax review and gave me real information instead of the generic 'it's with an agent' response I kept getting before. Definitely worth it for me since I was missing payments and needed answers.

•Does that actually work? I've seen it mentioned before but was skeptical. Getting through to an actual human seems impossible these days!

My brothers claim went thru the exact same thing (hes in roofing). The legaslative involvment actually made his take LONGER bcuz they put it in some special queue. Did ur state rep actualy tell u they made it a legaslative claim or r u just assuming? Big difference.

•The rep's office specifically told me they submitted it as a legislative inquiry and gave me a reference number for it. I thought that would help but maybe it's actually making things worse? Did your brother ever get his claim resolved?

•That gives me some hope! At least some people are getting through the process in a reasonable timeframe. Did you do anything specific to move things along? Or just wait patiently?

One thing that helped me when I was in this situation - I called and specifically asked for a "status notation to be added to my claim" stating that I'm experiencing financial hardship and requesting prioritization of my tax credit week review. The rep was surprisingly helpful and said that supervisors do review these notes when assigning workloads. My claim was resolved about 4-5 days later. Can't say for sure if that's what did it, but might be worth trying.

•This is actually good advice. PA UC does have an internal prioritization system, and documented financial hardship (especially risk of eviction, utility shutoff, etc.) can bump a claim up in the queue. Not guaranteed, but definitely worth requesting.

i had a tax agent review my claim last month. called that claimyr service someone mention earlier cuz i was desperate. the pa uc agent told me that the TAX agent only works certain days of the week on certain claims!!!! they dont even work on our claims everyday! thats why it takes so long. such BS but at least i finally knew why it was taking 4ever

•That's insane but explains a lot! So tax agents might only look at my type of claim like one day a week? No wonder this is dragging on for so long. Thanks for sharing that insight.

Quick update based on your responses: Since you confirmed it's officially a legislative claim, make sure to use that reference number every time you call. Also, the financial hardship request is your best option right now. Since you're at 2.5 weeks, you're almost at the point where supervisors start reviewing stuck claims. Tax agents typically have 21 business days to complete reviews before it flags for supervisor attention. Keep documenting all your call attempts too - this can be useful if you need to file a formal complaint later.

•Thank you so much for all this information! I didn't know about the 21 business day threshold. I'm going to call first thing tomorrow morning with my legislative reference number AND mention the financial hardship. Will definitely keep track of all calls from now on too. Really appreciate everyone's help!
