PA UC claim stuck in 'Under Review' for 2 months - almost evicted, need urgent help

I'm seriously panicking at this point. My UC claim has been stuck in 'Under Review' status for 8 weeks straight with ZERO payments. Rent is now 45 days late, electric company sent final notice, and my landlord just handed me a pre-eviction warning yesterday. I've called PA UC so many times I've lost count (probably 30+ attempts) and when I finally got through TWICE, they just told me my claim 'needs examiner review' and that they'd 'expedite' it. Nothing has changed! I've sent 5 messages through the portal and got generic responses each time telling me to 'continue filing weekly claims' and 'be patient.' HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE PATIENT WHEN I'M ABOUT TO BE HOMELESS?? Someone on another forum mentioned contacting my state representative. I'm in zip 19144 (Germantown area), so I emailed Rep. Kinsey's office last Thursday but haven't heard anything back yet. What else can I possibly do at this point? Has anyone actually gotten results after being told your claim was 'expedited'? I've burned through my entire savings just trying to keep afloat. Any advice would be life-saving right now.

I was in a similar situation back in January. The 'under review' status is a nightmare. After 6 weeks of waiting, I finally contacted my state rep (different district than yours) and they actually got things moving within 4 days. A few things to try: 1. Don't just email your state rep - call their office directly first thing tomorrow morning. Be prepared to provide your claim number, contact info, and briefly explain your situation. 2. Ask specifically for their 'UC liaison' - most rep offices have a staff member who handles unemployment issues. 3. If Rep. Kinsey doesn't respond by tomorrow afternoon, try contacting your state senator as well - sometimes they can help even faster than reps. 4. Make sure you're still completing your weekly certifications even though you're not getting paid. Hang in there - when they finally process it, you'll get all your backpay at once.

Thank you so much for this detailed info. I'll call Rep. Kinsey's office first thing tomorrow morning instead of waiting for an email response. I didn't know about asking for the 'UC liaison' specifically - that's super helpful. And yes, I've been religiously filing my weekly claims even though it feels pointless right now. Did you get all your backpay at once when yours finally got approved? I'm worried they'll only pay going forward or something.

bro same thing happened 2 me in novemebr!! was under review for like 10 weeks and nothing happend until i found this service called claimyr that got me through to an actual person at UC after trying for weeks!! just went to claimyr.com and they called me back with a UC rep on the line in like 20 min. was expensiv but worth it to finally talk to somone who could help. they fixed my claim right there, got my money 3 days later. theres a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 if ur interested

Is that service even legit?? Sounds sketchy to PAY someone just to talk to UC when you can do it for free. No offense but this sounds like an ad or something lol

its defintly real, i used it when i was desperate after trying for weeks. not saying everyone should use it but when ur about to be evicted like OP somtimes u need help right away not in 2 months

I've seen several people mention this service on here. It's legitimate - they basically use a system to navigate through the phone tree and get you connected to a real person. When the unemployment system is swamped with calls, sometimes paying to skip the wait is worth it if you're in a dire situation like the OP. But yes, technically you can do it yourself for free if you're persistent enough and have hours to spend calling repeatedly.

THEY ARE ALL LIARS!!! I was told my claim was "expedited" FOUR TIMES and it still took 13 weeks to resolve!!!! The system is BROKEN and they don't care about us. I ended up having to borrow money from family which was humiliating. The state rep route is hit or miss depending on who you get. Keep ALL your documentation because when they finally do pay you, they might try to say you didn't qualify for certain weeks.

Oh god, 13 weeks is horrifying. I really don't have any family I can borrow from - that's why I'm in such a panic. Did you ever figure out why your claim was held up for so long or did they just suddenly approve it?

They claimed they needed to "verify my employment history" which makes NO SENSE because my employer already confirmed everything!!! Then when I finally got approved they never even explained what took so long. The whole system is designed to make people give up. DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I work with a community legal aid organization, and we see this issue frequently. Here are some additional steps you can take: 1. If your landlord has given you formal eviction notice, immediately apply for emergency rental assistance through your county assistance office. Bring documentation of your pending UC claim. 2. For state rep contact, follow up with a phone call as others suggested, but also try their district office rather than their Harrisburg office - local staff often respond faster. 3. Request an "inquiry into claim status" specifically when you reach UC. This is different than just asking about your claim. 4. Document everything: take screenshots of your claim status, save all emails, record dates/times of calls, and names of representatives you speak with. 5. If you receive any notices about your claim (even just status updates), respond to them immediately through your dashboard. The "under review" status typically means there's an issue requiring manual review, but they're backlogged. When your claim is approved, you'll receive all back payments for the weeks you've certified. Feel free to DM me if you need more specific guidance.

Thank you so much for these detailed suggestions. I didn't know about emergency rental assistance - I'll look into that tomorrow. And I'll specifically ask for an "inquiry into claim status" next time I call. I've been taking screenshots of everything, thankfully. Really appreciate the professional advice!

My claim was stuck in "under review" for about 9 weeks back in February. What finally worked for me was going IN PERSON to the CareerLink office. The staff there couldn't directly fix my claim, but they had a special contact number for UC representatives that isn't available to the public. The CareerLink employee called on my behalf while I was sitting there, and they were able to identify exactly what was holding up my claim (in my case, my previous employer had contested it, but UC never notified me). Within 3 days of that visit, my status changed from "under review" to "approved" and I received all my back payments two days later. Might be worth trying if the state rep route doesn't work quickly enough.

This is brilliant! There's a CareerLink about 2 miles from me - I'll try going there tomorrow afternoon if I don't get anywhere with the state rep in the morning. Did you need an appointment or could you just walk in?

I just walked in, but this was a few months ago. Might be good to call first to check their current policy. Bring your claim info, ID, and any communications you've had with UC. The wait was about an hour, but TOTALLY worth it compared to endless phone calls that go nowhere!

UPDATE: Great news!!! My claim was finally approved yesterday (9/8) and I received ALL my back payments today (9/11)! Almost $4,600 in total which is saving me from eviction. What worked: I called my state rep's office Monday morning, spoke with their UC liaison, and they submitted an inquiry that same day. By Wednesday afternoon my dashboard updated to show all my weeks as paid! Thank you all SO MUCH for your advice and support during this nightmare. For anyone else stuck in review status - definitely contact your state representative, it made all the difference for me.

That's fantastic news! So glad the state rep route worked quickly for you. Make sure you set aside some of that money for taxes next year since UC doesn't automatically withhold. Congratulations on getting it resolved!

SEE! The system only works when you force them to do their jobs! Glad you got your money, it's ridiculous you had to go through all this stress when they could have just processed your claim correctly in the first place!

Excellent outcome! This is exactly why we always recommend the state representative approach for claims stuck in review. Thanks for updating us - it's helpful for others to see what works.
