PA UC claim stuck in review for 5+ weeks - desperate for income while waiting
I'm seriously at my wit's end with PA unemployment. My claim has been 'under review' for FIVE WEEKS now with zero movement. I call every day (or at least try to) but can't get through to anyone who can help. The irony isn't lost on me that when they need something from us, it has to be submitted immediately or they'll deny benefits, but when we need something from them? Radio silence. I've already applied to 47 different jobs in the past month but haven't landed anything yet. My savings are completely drained, and I'm about to miss my second rent payment. Does anyone know if there's any way to expedite a claim review? Or some secret phone number that actually works? I've tried calling right when they open at 8am but still get disconnected. Really don't know how much longer I can survive like this. Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

I was in your exact situation last month! My claim was stuck in review for almost 7 weeks and I was on the verge of getting evicted. What FINALLY worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual human at the unemployment office. Their system basically calls UC for you and holds your place in line, then calls you back when an agent is available. I was skeptical at first but checked out their video demo (https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2) and decided to try it. Got through to someone the same day who was able to push my claim through! You can find them at claimyr.com - seriously saved me from having to move back in with my parents.

•Thanks for the suggestion. Is this service legit? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point, but I've also heard about scams targeting people on unemployment.

Unfortunately there's no magic way to speed up PA UC claim reviews. The system is beyond broken. Have you checked your dashboard to see if there's any specific issue flagged? Sometimes they're waiting on info but never actually tell you. Also make sure you're still filing your weekly claims even while under review - you'll get backpaid once approved.

•Yeah I've been filing every week religiously. My dashboard just says "pending - under review" with no details about what the hold up is. That's half the frustration - not knowing what's even wrong or if I need to submit something else.

•I hadn't thought of that! Do you just look up who your local rep is and send them an email explaining the situation?

As someone who's worked with PA UC claims for years, here's what you need to do: 1. Continue filing weekly claims so you get all back payments when approved 2. Contact your state representative's office (as someone mentioned above) - they have direct lines to UC offices 3. Make sure you've uploaded all required documents to your dashboard 4. Check if you have any "action items" in your portal that need addressing 5. Try calling the alternate number: 855-284-8545 which sometimes has shorter wait times Claims under review for 5+ weeks typically involve identity verification issues, employer disputes about separation reason, or wage investigations. Without knowing your specific situation, it's hard to give more targeted advice.

•Thank you so much for this detailed response. I just checked and don't have any action items showing in my portal, but I'm definitely going to try the alternate number and reach out to my state rep today. Really appreciate the help.

They're doing this ON PURPOSE to make people give up. The whole system is designed to be frustrating. I waited 9 weeks last year and gave up calling after 3 weeks because it was pointless. Got approved eventually but by then I'd already sold my car to pay bills. The government doesn't care about regular people.

•This isn't entirely accurate. While the UC system is definitely overloaded and inefficient, they're not intentionally delaying claims. Most delays are due to staffing shortages and the need to verify claim details. That said, I agree it's extremely frustrating and the system needs major improvements.

Try contacting them through your dashboard messaging system too. Sometimes they respond there faster than by phone. Make sure your message is VERY specific about how long you've been waiting and your financial hardship. Mention you're at risk of eviction if that's true. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!!

•I've sent two messages already but will try again with more specific details about my situation. Can't hurt to try everything at this point. Thanks!

After trying the Claimyr service I mentioned earlier, did you have any luck with the other suggestions? Reaching out to your state rep is definitely solid advice too. Just curious if anything worked for you!

•UPDATE: I finally got through yesterday using the Claimyr service! The agent told me my claim was held up because my previous employer disputed my reason for separation (they claimed I quit, but I was actually laid off). The agent was able to schedule an interview for next week to resolve it. Not approved yet, but at least now I know what's happening and have a path forward. Thanks everyone for your help!

Great to hear you got through! For the employer dispute interview, make sure you have any documentation ready that proves you were laid off - termination letter, emails, texts, anything. And be ready to explain exactly what happened during your separation. These fact-finding interviews are really important for disputed claims.

•That's really helpful, thank you. I do have an email from my manager mentioning the layoff, so I'll have that ready. Fingers crossed this gets resolved after the interview!

Good luck with the interview! They'll probably make you wait another month after that before approving anything. Make sure you record the call so they can't twist your words later!!

•Just a heads up - Pennsylvania is a two-party consent state for recording, so you'd need to inform the interviewer you're recording and get their permission. Instead, I'd recommend taking detailed notes during the interview and requesting the interviewer's name and ID number. After the interview, send a follow-up message through your dashboard summarizing what was discussed.
