PA UC approval timeline? - Been waiting 3 weeks with no update

Filed my initial PA unemployment claim 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard ANYTHING about whether I'm approved to collect benefits or not. My portal just says 'pending' with no other info. Is this normal? How long did it take for you guys to get approval? I was laid off from construction work when our project funding got cut, and I've been filing my weekly claims like they told me to, but I'm starting to get really worried since I have bills coming due next week. Should I be doing something else or just keep waiting?

Mine took about 10 days to get approved back in January. If you're at 3 weeks, something might be holding up your claim. Have you checked if there are any open issues showing on your dashboard? Also, make sure all your employment info is accurate - any discrepancies between what you reported and what your employer reported can cause delays.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see any 'open issues' listed anywhere but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? Where exactly should I check for that? The only status I see is 'pending' next to my initial claim date.

Took me 6 WEEKS to get approved last year!!! The PA UC system is completely broken. They'll make you wait forever without telling you anything, then suddenly expect you to respond to some random question within 48 hours or they'll deny your claim. Your best bet is calling them directly to see what's going on, but good luck getting through - I spent 3 days calling nonstop before I got a human.

6 weeks?? I can't wait that long! I've tried calling a few times but always get the busy signal or the message saying to call back later. Do they ever actually answer the phone?

The current average processing time for PA UC initial claims is 2-4 weeks, but it can take longer if there are any issues that need to be verified. Check your correspondence section in the portal - they might have sent you a request for additional information that you missed. Also, make sure you're completing your work search activities each week (2 per week minimum) while you wait for approval, as this will be required for payment once approved.

Just checked my correspondence and there's nothing there other than the confirmation that I filed my initial claim. And yes, I've been doing my work search activities and documenting them each week. Just feels like I'm in limbo right now.

Oh man i know exactly how u feel!! I filed in February and was stuck in pending for almost 5 weeks!! I was about to lose my mind but then suddenly got approved last friday. The weird thing was that they backdated all my payments so I got a big lump sum for all those weeks I had been filing. Just hang in there, at least ur getting ur weeklies in!

I've used Claimyr to get through to PA unemployment when I was stuck in pending status for weeks. It's a service that basically calls for you and gets you connected to a live agent so you don't have to spend days redialing. Worked really well for me - I was able to find out there was a verification issue they needed to clear up. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2

There's probably an issue with your claim that needs to be resolved before they can approve you. Do you have any previous overpayments from old claims? Did you receive any severance pay when you were laid off? Were you working full-time or part-time? All these factors can affect how quickly your claim is processed. Also, if your employer contests your claim for any reason, that will cause significant delays. Check your dashboard for any indicators of issues - there should be a section that shows claim status in more detail than just 'pending.

I was full-time, no severance, and no previous claims ever. My employer shouldn't be contesting since it was a clear layoff due to project funding. I'll check again for more detailed status info but I swear I've looked everywhere in the portal.

Anyone who tells you there's a "normal" timeline with PA UC is lying! The system is completely random. I know people who got approved in 1 week and others who waited 3 MONTHS. It's all about luck and whether your claim gets flagged for manual review. If it does, you're stuck in UC purgatory until some overworked examiner gets to your file.

UPDATE: I finally got through on the phone! Turns out they needed to verify my identity because my current address doesn't match what was in their system from my employer (I moved recently). The lady was actually really nice and fixed it while I was on the call. She said I should see a determination within 3-5 business days. Thanks everyone for your advice!

That's great news! Address mismatches are a common cause of delays. Make sure all your contact information is up to date in the system for future communications. And keep filing those weekly claims - once approved, you'll receive payment for all eligible weeks you've already claimed.

Just wanted to say don't give up hope! Mine took 5 weeks and I was ready to tear my hair out but when it finally got approved they paid all the back weeks at once. The waiting is the worst part!

Glad you got it sorted out! The address mismatch thing is so frustrating - they really should make that clearer in the system instead of just leaving people hanging with "pending" status. For anyone else reading this who might be stuck, it's worth double-checking that ALL your info matches exactly what your employer has on file - address, name spelling, SSN, etc. Even small discrepancies can trigger a manual review. Hope you get your determination soon and can finally get some relief!

So glad you got it resolved! The address mismatch issue is super common but they never make it clear that's what's causing the delay. I had a similar situation where I had to call multiple times before someone finally told me what the actual problem was. It's really frustrating that the system just shows "pending" without any hint about what they're waiting for. Hopefully this helps other people who might be dealing with the same issue - definitely worth calling if you've moved recently or if there's any chance your employer might have outdated info on file. Good luck with getting your determination!

This is such valuable info! I'm dealing with something similar right now - filed 2 weeks ago and stuck on pending. I did move about a month before I got laid off, so this might be exactly what's happening with my claim too. Did you have to provide any specific documentation when you called, or did they just update it over the phone? Really hoping I can get through to someone soon because like you said, the "pending" status tells you absolutely nothing about what's actually going on.
