Found other people's information in my PA UC claim file - privacy breach?

I'm freaking out right now!! Just logged into my PA unemployment account to check my claim status and somehow I can see TWO other people's personal information mixed in with mine?! I can literally see their names, partial SSNs, and all their claim details. This seems like a HUGE privacy breach. If I can see their info, who can see MINE? Has anyone else experienced this? Who do I need to contact about this? The regular UC number just keeps giving me busy signals. This feels pretty urgent since it's other people's personal info!

This is definitely a serious issue that needs immediate attention. This is a data breach and PA UC needs to be notified ASAP. The most effective way to report this is to: 1. Take screenshots as evidence (but black out any personal info) 2. Contact PA UC through their dedicated fraud hotline: 1-800-692-7292 3. Send an email with "DATA BREACH" in the subject line to: uchelp@pa.gov 4. Log out completely and clear your browser cache Don't try to access those files again as it could potentially create more problems.

omg this happened to someone at my work too! the system is all messed up since they did the update in january

Wow thats crazy!! I would be FURIOUS if someone else could see my information too!! Did you try going to the actual unemployment office? Sometimes you gotta talk to a real person about this stuff. The phone lines are useless.

I haven't tried going in person yet. I'm just worried about this being time-sensitive since other people's info is at risk. I tried calling like 15 times today and couldn't get through. Has anyone been to the actual office lately? Are the wait times crazy?

I had something similar happen last month but with just one other person's info. I spent 3 days trying to get through on the phone without success. After seeing how frustrated I was, my brother told me about a service called Claimyr that can actually get you connected to a UC agent quickly instead of dealing with busy signals all day. I was skeptical but desperate so I tried it (claimyr.com) and they actually got me through to a PA UC rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/CEPETxZdo9E?si=WL1ZzVZWG3KiHrg2 The UC agent took my info and escalated it to their IT security team. They fixed the issue within 48 hours and called me back to confirm.

Is that service legit? Sounds too good to be true given how impossible it is to reach anyone at unemployment.

Yeah, it's legitimate. I was hesitant too but it actually worked. They basically just keep calling the UC office for you using their system until they get through, then connect you once they have an agent on the line. Saved me hours of frustration.

This is a SERIOUS security breach and possibly a violation of federal privacy laws. PA Department of Labor needs to address this immediately. Here's what I recommend based on having worked with similar issues: 1. Document EVERYTHING - take screenshots showing the issue (with sensitive info blurred) 2. Contact PA-L&I directly: uchelp@pa.gov AND uc-helpdesk@pa.gov - mark as HIGH PRIORITY 3. In your email, request: - Immediate removal of other claimants' data from your account - Written confirmation that your data isn't visible to others - Timeline for resolution - Incident reference number Also worth noting - if you're seeing SSNs or other sensitive data, this could potentially be reportable to the state attorney general's office as well. This isn't just an inconvenience, it's potentially a major data protection failure.

Thank you for the detailed advice. I took screenshots already (with info blacked out). I'll send those emails today. Do you know if I should keep filing my weekly claims while this is being resolved? I'm worried about messing something up even more.

Yes, absolutely continue filing your weekly claims. This data issue shouldn't affect your ability to claim benefits, and missing weeks could create problems with your payments. Just be careful to verify that the information you're certifying is actually YOUR information, not someone else's. If you can't tell which information belongs to you, note that in your email to them as well.

Ugh the PA UC system is such garbage!! I bet they'll blame it on "system maintenance" like they do everything else. My friend had her benefits sent to someone else's card last year and it took them 2 MONTHS to fix it. They don't care about our privacy AT ALL.

For real!! Every time they update anything it just gets worse! Remember when they switched to that new portal last year and nobody could log in for like a week?? They need to hire some ACTUAL tech people instead of whoever they got running things now lol

Hey OP - were you able to get this resolved? I'm wondering if you tried calling in or one of the other suggestions people mentioned. This seems like a serious issue that UC should address quickly.

Update: I finally got through to someone! I used that Claimyr service that someone mentioned above and got connected to a UC rep in about 30 minutes. They were actually really concerned when I explained what happened. They took all my info and said they're escalating it to their security team. They also put a note on my account and gave me a case number. The rep said they've had a few similar reports since they migrated some data to a new system last month. They're supposed to call me back within 2 business days with an update. I'll post again when I hear anything. Thanks everyone for your help with this!

FINAL UPDATE: The UC office called me back today. They fixed the issue on their end and said it was caused by a database error during their system update. They found 37 accounts total that had this problem and they've fixed them all now. They also said they're sending formal notification letters to everyone affected, including the people whose info was in my account. They apologized a bunch and said they're implementing new testing procedures before future updates. The rep also mentioned they're going to review my claim personally to make sure nothing else was affected. Thanks again everyone for your help with this! Definitely scary to see other people's info but at least they took it seriously once I finally reached them.

This is good news, though concerning that it affected 37 accounts. Make sure to keep that case number and the name of who you spoke with. If you notice ANY issues with your claim in the next few months, reference this incident specifically. Glad you got resolution!

Thanks for updating us! I'm going to save this thread in case something similar happens to me or someone I know. Great example of how to handle a serious UC system issue.

Wow, thanks for sharing this whole experience and keeping us updated! This is actually really helpful to know about. I've been having some weird glitches with my account lately (nothing this serious) but now I'm wondering if they're related to the same system issues you encountered. It's honestly pretty scary that 37 people were affected by this data breach. Makes me want to check my account more carefully to make sure everything looks right. Did they give you any advice on what to watch out for going forward, or any way to verify that your account is secure now? Also really glad that Claimyr service worked out for you - I've been struggling to get through on the phone for weeks about a different issue and might have to try that route myself.

Hey! I'm new here but this whole thread has been super helpful - I had no idea this kind of thing could even happen with the UC system. @c6da548b9fab Emily, did they give you any specific things to look for to make sure your account stays secure? I'm paranoid now and want to double-check mine. Also, for anyone else reading this, should we be checking our accounts more regularly after hearing about this? This seems like something that could happen again if they're having ongoing IT issues.
