And DON'T FORGET they require job search activities EVERY WEEK now. You have to apply to at least 2 jobs and do 1 other "work search activity" EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. Miss one week and they can deny your benefits!!!
Just wanted to add - if you're still confused about your specific situation, you can also check your wage records online through the PA UC portal before applying. Go to the PA UC website and look for "View Wage Records" or something similar. It will show you exactly what wages they have on file for each quarter, so you can calculate if you meet the minimum requirements. This saved me a lot of stress because I could see my exact earnings for each quarter in 2024 before filing. Also, make sure all your employers reported your wages correctly - I found one employer had the wrong SSN on file which delayed my claim!
This is super helpful! I didn't know you could check wage records online first. That would definitely save me from applying and then finding out I don't qualify. Do you remember what section of the PA UC website it was under? I'm looking now but there are so many links and I don't want to accidentally start an application before I'm ready.
OK so I just filed my new claim after my benefit year ended. The system is showing "pending" right now. I'm still so nervous about what's going to happen. I really appreciate everyone's help and advice here. I'll update once I hear something back from UC about whether I'm approved or denied for a new benefit year.
When my benefit year ended last month, I had major problems with my new application because the system didn't recognize my employer's business ID correctly. I ended up getting a denial letter with incorrect information. After trying to call for three days straight and never getting through, I found out about claimyr.com from a friend. They connected me to a PA UC agent who fixed everything in one call. My new claim went from denied to approved in 48 hours after they corrected the employer information. Just sharing in case anyone else runs into similar issues.
Thanks for sharing this! If I get denied I might try that service. Did the agent explain why you were initially denied or was it just a system error with your employer's info?
It was a system error - my employer had changed their business name but kept the same EIN, and the UC system couldn't match it properly to my wage records. The agent said this happens more often than people think, especially with companies that rebrand or get acquired. She was able to manually verify my wages and update the employer info in like 10 minutes. Without that call I probably would have been stuck in appeals hell for months!
Just an FYI - make sure you continue filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the payment to show up. I made the mistake of thinking I didn't need to file during that limbo period and lost a week of benefits. Don't be like me!
I had something similar happen about 6 months ago - went from denial to approval in the same day! In my case, the transaction numbers appeared on the Friday afternoon (claim was approved on Thursday), and I had the money on my card by the following Tuesday. Since you're already seeing benefit amounts on your dashboard, that's the hardest part behind you. The waiting is brutal when you're down to your last $20 though - I totally get that stress. Just keep checking your dashboard early in the morning (around 6-7 AM) over the next couple days, that's usually when the system updates with transaction numbers.
Update: I finally got through to PA UC yesterday! The claims examiner confirmed there was an availability issue flag on my account from that one week I reported being sick. She took my statement explaining it was a temporary illness and said they'll make a determination within 7-10 days. She also said I should receive payments for all eligible weeks after that one sick week once the issue is resolved. Such a relief to finally talk to someone! Will post again when I (hopefully) get my backpay.
Wow, you actually got through!? What number did you call and what time? I've been trying for WEEKS with no luck!
That's great news! I'm so glad you finally got through to someone. Did you end up using that Claimyr service that others mentioned or did you get through the regular way? I'm still stuck in the same situation and desperately need to talk to someone about my claim.
This exact same thing happened to me back in 2023! I was honest about being sick with COVID for a few days and it triggered a months-long nightmare with PA UC. What finally worked for me was sending a written statement through their online portal explaining that my illness was temporary and I was fully available for work before and after that week. I also included a timeline showing exactly which days I was unavailable vs. available. The key thing the examiner told me later was being very specific about the temporary nature of the illness and emphasizing that I resumed normal job search activities immediately after recovering. It took about 3 weeks after submitting the written statement to get everything resolved, but I did receive all my backpay. Hang in there - the system is frustrating but you should get your money once they review your case!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It's really encouraging to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing and got it resolved. I'm definitely going to submit a detailed written statement through the portal like you suggested. Did you have to keep calling them during those 3 weeks or did they contact you once they made their decision? I'm trying to figure out if I should keep harassing them with calls or just wait it out after submitting the statement.

Thank you all for the information and sharing your experiences. I'm definitely going to call the Prothonotary's office tomorrow to check on my paperwork status, and I'll start looking into attorneys who handle UC cases on contingency. It's really discouraging to hear how long this whole process takes, but at least I know it's not unusual to be waiting this long for an acknowledgment. I'll update this thread if I find out anything useful from the Prothonotary's office that might help others in similar situations. Fingers crossed that I eventually get a positive outcome like some of you did!

I'm going through something very similar right now! Filed my Commonwealth Court appeal about 6 weeks ago and also haven't heard anything back yet. Reading through everyone's experiences here is both reassuring and terrifying at the same time - I had no idea the timeline could be 10-16 months for a final decision! I actually called that Prothonotary number someone mentioned last week (717-255-1650) and they were able to confirm my appeal was received and assigned a docket number, which gave me some peace of mind. The clerk told me they're currently processing appeals from about 4-5 months ago, so the backlog is real. One thing I wanted to add - make sure you keep documentation of your job search efforts during this whole process, even though you're appealing. I was told by a legal aid attorney that if you do eventually win, they might still require proof that you were available and actively seeking work during the appeal period to get your full back benefits. Better safe than sorry! Also seconding what others said about watching your mail carefully. I've been checking every single piece of mail religiously because I'm paranoid about missing something important with a deadline.
