Remote worker in Michigan laid off from New York job - where to file unemployment?

You need to file in New York since thats where the employer is located. The tax thing doesnt matter - its about where the company is based. I went through this last year working remote from Jersey for a NY company.

omg dont listen to anyone telling u to file in michigan!!! ny is 100% where u need to file. its actually better 4 u anyway cuz ny benefits r way higher than michigan lol

You might need to call them to verify some stuff since ur out of state 4. Use claimyr.com if you cant get through on phone 5. Benefits will be based on NY wages even tho you paid MI taxes 6.
