Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. Quick heads up - if u miss the interview they usually give u 7 days to provide good cause for missing it. So worst case scenario, you'll have time to explain after the fact

Just went thru this process myself. Here's what you need to know: 1. File with NY unemployment 2. Have ALL your documents ready (w2, paystubs, termination letter) 3. You might need to call them to verify some stuff since ur out of state 4. Use claimyr.com if you cant get through on phone 5. Benefits will be based on NY wages even tho you paid MI taxes 6. Let me break this down for everyone about certification times and what happens if you miss them. The system gives you a pretty decent window to certify each week. You can certify starting Sunday at 12:01 AM through midnight Saturday. The 7:30 PM cutoff is just for PHONE certification. Online certification works 24/7 during your window. If you miss your window completely, you'll need to call them to backdate the certification. That's where services like claimyr.com come in handy since getting through to an agent can be rough. Missing one certification won't end your benefits - you just might get paid late. Just make sure you certify ASAP and try not to make it a habit!

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you need to do: First, wait until the day after your last day of work. Filing early will only cause problems. Have these ready: - Social security number - Driver's license/State ID - Last 18 months of employment history - Your bank info for direct deposit File online first at labor.ny.gov - it's easier than calling. But if you need to talk to someone (which most people do), use claimyr.com to get through instead of waiting on hold forever. After you file, you'll need to claim weekly benefits. Set a reminder - always do it on the same day each week. If your claim gets stuck 'pending' (pretty common), that's when you'll definitely need to call. Again, claimyr.com is clutch for this.
