New York Unemployment on hold after missing work search meeting - benefits under review for 2 weeks

My benefits got held up because I missed a work search requirement meeting. I rescheduled and went to the new appointment, filled out their questionnaire explaining why I missed it, and completed all the job zone stuff. My claim is still active but under review. Been claiming every week but haven't gotten paid for 2 weeks now. Anyone else deal with this?

Same thing happened to me last month. Took about 3 weeks to get it sorted out. Keep claiming and documenting everything. They'll backpay you once its resolved 👍

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this service called claimyr.com - they dial through the phone menu, wait on hold, then call you when they get an agent. Costs $20 but worth it tbh. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

sounds sketchy... does it actually work?

100% works. Used it twice already. Better than spending hours on hold

Pro tip: Make copies of EVERYTHING you send them. Take screenshots of your job zone activities. Document all your work searches. Trust me on this one 💯

Bruh their system is so messed up. I had to wait 6 weeks once because of a 'review'. Keep claiming tho, you'll get retroactive payment

6 weeks?! thats insane

Contact your state representative's office! They can sometimes speed things up. Worked for me when I was stuck in review hell

how do i find my rep?

google '[your county] NY state representative' - they usually have unemployment specialists on staff

Here's what you need to do: First, keep claiming every week without fail. Even if you're not getting paid, this ensures you'll get backpay. Second, document everything. Screenshots of your job zone activities, copies of the questionnaire, and any correspondence. Third, try reaching them through multiple channels: - Use claimyr.com to get through on the phone (worth the $20) - Send a secure message through your online account - Contact your state representative - Use their social media channels (sometimes they respond on Twitter) Lastly, make sure you're doing your work searches and logging them properly. They're super strict about this now. I went through this exact situation. Took about 4 weeks but got resolved with all backpay. Don't give up!

This is so frustrating but unfortunately pretty common with NY DOL. I went through something similar when I had to reschedule a phone interview. The key is persistence - keep claiming every week like others said, and definitely document everything with timestamps. One thing that helped me was calling first thing in the morning right when they open (8am). The hold times are usually shorter then. Also, if you haven't already, make sure your work search log is completely up to date in the system because they're really cracking down on that stuff lately. Hang in there - the backpay will come through once they clear the review! 🙏

Thanks for the 8am tip! I've been calling at random times and getting nowhere. Definitely going to try that tomorrow morning. My work search log is current but I'm paranoid they'll find some tiny issue with it 😅

I'm dealing with almost the exact same situation right now! Missed my work search meeting due to a family emergency, rescheduled immediately, did everything they asked including the questionnaire and job zone requirements. It's been 3 weeks of claiming with no payments and I'm getting really stressed about my rent. Has anyone had luck with the secure messaging system through the unemployment portal? I sent a message last week but haven't heard back. Also wondering if there's a specific department or phone number that handles these review cases faster than the general line? Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - at least I know I'm not alone in this mess! 😤

I feel you on this! Going through something similar after missing my meeting. The secure messaging is pretty hit or miss - took them 2 weeks to respond to mine and it was just a generic "your case is under review" message. For the phone situation, I've had better luck calling the dedicated work search line at (888) 209-8124 instead of the main number. The wait times are still brutal but I think they handle these specific cases. Also try calling right at 8am sharp like @Darren mentioned - that's when I finally got through last time. Stay strong, we'll get through this bureaucratic nightmare! 💪
