New York Unemployment investigating old 2019 claim - Need help with fraud investigation meeting
Need help! Just got notice from unemployment about investigating my old 2019 claim for possible fraud. They want me to show up in Brooklyn with identification documents but I don't have my old passport anymore. Anyone dealt with this type of investigation before? Really worried about having to pay everything back.

Same thing happened to me last month! Bring every piece of ID you can find - drivers license, birth certificate, social security card, bills with your address. They mainly want to verify your identity. Don't skip the meeting or it'll make things worse.

Hey I was having trouble reaching them about my investigation too but I found this site claimyr.com that got me through to a rep in like 30 mins. Cost $20 but worth it to actually talk to someone. They stayed on hold and called me when someone picked up. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•100% legit, used it twice now. Better than calling 500 times yourself lol

IMPORTANT INFO FOR FRAUD INVESTIGATIONS: I work in legal aid and here's what you need to know: First, don't panic. These investigations are common and don't automatically mean you did anything wrong. The DOL is just verifying claims from that period. What to bring: - State ID/License - Birth Certificate - Social Security Card - Any work documents from 2019 - Bank statements from that period - Tax returns from 2019 If you can't make it to Brooklyn, call them ASAP to reschedule. Use claimyr.com if you cant get through. Document everything! DM me if you need more specific advice.

Hey Yara, I went through something similar in 2020. The key thing is to stay calm and be organized. Even without your old passport, you should be fine with other forms of ID. I'd also suggest bringing any employment records you can find from 2019 - pay stubs, W2s, termination letters, anything that shows your work history. If you can't find those documents, your former employer might still have copies. The investigators are usually pretty reasonable if you're upfront about what happened and show you're trying to cooperate. Good luck! 🤞
