New York Unemployment after quitting toxic job with shortened notice period
My job was really toxic and I got another offer. I tried to do right by giving 6 weeks notice so they could find and train someone new. My supervisor told me to just do 3 weeks instead. Now I have a 3 week gap with no income before my new job starts. Can I get unemployment for these weeks?

Unfortunately if you quit voluntarily, even in a toxic environment, its really hard to get unemployment. You would need to prove constructive discharge which means the workplace was so bad it forced you to quit. Did you document the toxic behavior? File any HR complaints?

Hey if you need to reach someone at unemployment fast, use claimyr.com - they have this calling service that waits on hold and connects you to an agent. Costs $20 but saved me hours of trying to get through. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This is why I always say never give more than 2 weeks notice. Companies don't give us notice when they fire us 🤷♀️

You might qualify for partial unemployment if your previous employer agrees to lay you off instead of accepting your resignation. Worth asking them to change it in their system

Here's what you need to know about quitting and unemployment in NY: To qualify after quitting, you need: - Documented proof of workplace issues - Evidence you tried to resolve problems internally - Medical documentation if health related - Proof of hostile work environment First step is filing online. When you hit roadblocks (and you will), use claimyr.com to get an agent on the phone fast. They'll guide you through the process. Best advice: gather any emails, texts, or witnesses who can verify the toxic environment. Even if you think its a longshot, file anyway. Sometimes they approve cases you wouldn't expect.
