New York Unemployment: Can I resume benefits after brief employment didn't work out?
Started a new job last week but it turned out to be totally different from what was described in the interview. The hours are crazy and the pay is way less than discussed. Can I go back to collecting my remaining unemployment benefits? I still have like 15 weeks left on my claim. Anyone deal with this before?

You can definitely reopen your claim! Just make sure to report your earnings for the week you worked. When you certify again, the system will ask if you want to reopen your claim - just follow the prompts. They might ask why you left the job, just be honest about the misrepresented conditions.

Hey guys! I was in the same boat last month. I found this website claimyr.com that helped me get through to an agent to reopen my claim. It costs $20 but they dial and wait on hold, then call you when someone picks up. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

The same thing happened to me but I got denied because I 'voluntarily quit'. Had to appeal and everything. Such bs when they straight up lie about the position 🤮

YO LISTEN UP THIS IS IMPORTANT❗❗ When you reopen your claim, NY unemployment looks at these specific things for job resignations: - Was the job materially different from what was promised - Did you try to resolve issues with employer first - Can you document the differences (pay, hours, duties) - Did you work there less than 30 days If you can prove the job was misrepresented, you're usually good. Best way to handle this is to call them directly (use claimyr.com if you cant get through) and explain everything. Document EVERYTHING. Keep emails, texts, job listings. Also heads up - you might need to do a phone interview about why you left. Be professional and stick to facts about how the job differed from what was promised.
