New York Unemployment Hearing Timeline and Payment Process Questions
Need info about unemployment hearing process. Anyone know how long until I get a hearing date? Is it in person or phone? Also wondering about timeline for getting paid if approved.

My hearing was scheduled about 6 weeks after I requested it. They do everything over the phone now since covid. Took like 45 mins total and judge was actually pretty chill tbh.

I found a way to actually get through on the phone using claimyr.com. It costs $20 but they dial and wait on hold, then call you when theres an agent. Helped me get answers about my hearing. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Just had my hearing last month. Here's the full rundown: Hearing Timeline: - Request to scheduled date: ~8 weeks - Phone hearing lasted 1 hour - Decision came 2 weeks later - Payment started 1 week after approval Make sure you have ALL your documents ready and organized. They'll email you instructions few days before. Stay professional even if ur nervous. Tip: Use claimyr.com if you need status updates. Way better than waiting on hold forever. Good luck! Let me know if u need more details

Had my hearing 3 weeks ago after waiting about 7 weeks to get scheduled. Phone call lasted about 40 minutes and the judge was fair but thorough. Got my approval decision last Friday and first payment hit my account yesterday! Few things that helped me: - Had all my termination paperwork printed out - Made notes about key dates and what happened - Spoke slowly and clearly during the hearing - Stayed calm even when my former employer's rep was being difficult The waiting is the worst part but hang in there! Once it gets rolling the process moves pretty quick.

•Thanks for sharing all those details! Really helpful to know what to expect. Did you have to provide any specific documents during the hearing itself or was it just having them ready as reference?

Just went through this whole process myself! Got my hearing scheduled after about 5 weeks of waiting. It was definitely nerve-wracking but the phone format made it less intimidating than I expected. For timeline - my hearing was about 50 minutes, got the decision letter 10 days later (approved!), and first payment showed up in my account 5 days after that. The backpay covered everything from when I first filed. One thing nobody mentioned - make sure your phone is fully charged and you're in a quiet spot with good reception. My neighbor's dog started barking halfway through and I was mortified lol. Judge was understanding though. Also agree with everyone saying to have your documents organized. I made a simple timeline of events and it really helped me stay focused when answering questions. Good luck @Mateo!

•@Diego thanks for all the practical tips! The phone charging advice is so smart - would've never thought of that but makes total sense. How detailed did you get in your timeline? Like did you include specific conversations with supervisors or just the major events?

Been through this recently too! My hearing took about 9 weeks to get scheduled, but that was during peak time. Phone hearing lasted about an hour and the judge was pretty straightforward - just stick to facts and stay organized. Payment wise - once approved, first payment hit my account within a week and then backpay followed a few days after. The whole backpay process was actually smoother than I expected. Big tip: test your phone connection beforehand! I did a test call with a friend to make sure audio was clear. Also keep a glass of water nearby - you'll be talking a lot and your mouth gets dry from nerves. The hardest part is just the waiting honestly. Once you're actually in the hearing it goes by quick. Stay confident and prepared @Mateo - you got this! 💪
