Unemployment account suddenly shows $8,611.20 in overpayments and penalties after system error during weekly certification - how do I fix this?

Just certified my weekly benefits and noticed something wrong. I certified twice because the system showed my first one didn't go through. Now my account shows I owe over $8,611.20 in overpayments and penalties! Still unemployed and haven't received any notices in the mail. When I check my account details, it clearly shows: Weekly Benefit Amount: $468.00 Maximum Amount Payable: $12,168.00 Effective Days Remaining: 40 But now it also shows: Amount you owe for overpaid benefits: $7,488.00 Amount you owe for penalties: $1,123.20 Total amount you owe: $8,611.20 How could I suddenly owe so much money? My benefit amount is only $468 per week, and I still have 40 effective days remaining out of my maximum payable amount of $12,168.00. I think the system must have double-counted my certification and charged me for receiving benefits I never actually got. I've been religiously filing every week as required and haven't received any notice about this in the mail or email. Does anyone know what could have caused this massive overpayment amount or how to fix it? Should I call the unemployment office? Is there a specific form I need to fill out to dispute this? I'm really stressed because I can't afford to pay back $8,611.20 when I'm still unemployed.

Hey I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this service called claimyr.com that calls and waits on hold, then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but saved me days of calling. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

The system has been super glitchy lately with certifications. Tons of ppl on here having the same issue. THIS IS WHAT U NEED TO DO: 1. Screenshot everything showing the double certification 2. Document exact times you certified 3. Call UI office first thing (use claimyr.com to get through) 4. File an appeal right away even before talking to someone 5. Keep certifying weekly but only ONCE Dont panic - its probably just a system error but u gotta act fast. They can fix it but only if u reach out to them!
