New York Unemployment: Can I get benefits while cutting hours for nursing school?
Working at a hospital and recently started nursing school. Had to cut my hours from 40 down to 12-16 per week because of school workload. Someone mentioned I might qualify for unemployment due to reduced hours. Anyone have experience with this type of situation?

You might qualify for partial unemployment. I reduced my hours for school too and got benefits. Just make sure you report your weekly earnings accurately when you certify. They'll calculate how much you can get based on what you make now vs before.

•They take like 25% off ur benefit amount for each day you work, even if its just a few hours that day

Hey! I was stuck trying to reach them about partial benefits too. Found this site claimyr.com that calls and waits on hold for you, then connects you when someone picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Check out this video too: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

hate to be that person but voluntarily reducing hours for school usually doesnt qualify you for benefits. they want you to be available for full time work 💅

Here's the full breakdown of what you need to know about partial unemployment while in school: First, document everything about your hour reduction. Keep all emails/communications with your employer. You'll need to prove this wasn't fully voluntary. Make sure you're still available for work during some hours. NY unemployment requires you to be ready and willing to work. When filing, be 100% honest about your school schedule and current work hours. Any discrepancy can result in having to pay benefits back. You'll need to call them to explain your situation. Use claimyr.com to get through - they'll wait on hold and connect you to an agent. Keep certifying weekly and report ALL earnings, even small shifts. The system will calculate your partial benefit rate. Good luck with nursing school! 💯
