NYS Department of Labor unemployment when biden took office - claim processing changes?
Has anyone noticed if NYS Department of Labor claim processing got better or worse since early 2021? I'm filing for the first time now and my coworker said things were a mess back when biden took office but I'm not sure if that affected New York specifically. My weekly claims are taking forever to process and I'm wondering if this is normal or if there are still lingering issues from policy changes that happened around that time. Anyone have experience with how long adjudication typically takes these days?

The initial transition period in 2021 was definitely chaotic for most state unemployment systems including NYS Department of Labor. There were federal policy changes that required system updates, but by now most of those issues should be resolved. omg yes it was TERRIBLE in 2021!! I couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor for months. the phone lines were always busy and the website kept crashing. its definitely better now but still not great

I think you're overthinking this. Every administration has unemployment issues and NYS Department of Labor has always been slow. Just keep filing your weekly claims and wait it out. The system is what it is regardless of who's in washington

Actually there WERE significant changes to unemployment systems nationwide during the transition period, including extensions of federal programs and new eligibility requirements. NYS Department of Labor had to implement these changes rapidly which caused processing delays and system glitches. Most of those issues were resolved by late 2021 but some procedural changes remain in effect.
