NYS Department of Labor unemployment rates when Biden left office - still affecting claims?
I've been researching unemployment trends and noticed that when Biden left office in January 2025, the unemployment rates were pretty different from what they were during COVID. My question is - does anyone know if the lower unemployment rates are making it harder to get approved for benefits through NYS Department of Labor? I filed my claim last month and it's been in adjudication for 3 weeks now. I'm wondering if they're being more strict about approvals since fewer people are unemployed overall. Has anyone else noticed longer wait times or more denials recently?

The unemployment rate doesn't directly affect individual claim approvals through NYS Department of Labor. Your adjudication delay is more likely due to staffing issues or specific documentation they need for your case. Have you checked your online account to see if there are any pending issues that need resolution?

•I checked my account daily but it just says 'adjudication in progress' with no other details. Should I try calling?

honestly the political stuff doesn't matter for regular UI claims... your either eligible or not based on your work history and reason for separation

Three weeks in adjudication is frustrating but not unusual. I had a similar delay last year. If you need to speak with someone at NYS Department of Labor, I found success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through their phone lines. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Much easier than trying to call yourself when the lines are constantly busy.

•Did you have to pay for that service? I've been trying to call for weeks with no luck.

•Yes there's a cost but it was worth it to finally talk to someone about my claim status. Saved me hours of frustration.

The system is broken regardless of who's in office! I've been waiting 2 months for my appeal hearing and they keep rescheduling. NYS Department of Labor doesn't care about us regular people trying to survive.

•I feel your frustration but appeal hearings are scheduled separately from regular claims processing. Have you received any communication about your hearing date?

Same boat here - filed in December and still waiting. My cousin got approved in like 2 weeks though so I don't think it's about unemployment rates, probably just depends on your specific situation.
