NYS Department of Labor program code 10 unemployment - what does this mean on my claim?
I just checked my unemployment claim status online and it shows 'program code 10' but I have no idea what this means. I filed my initial claim about 2 weeks ago after getting laid off from my retail job and everything seemed normal during the application process. Now I'm seeing this code and getting worried that something's wrong with my claim. Has anyone else seen program code 10 on their NYS Department of Labor account? Should I be concerned or is this just a normal processing thing?

Program code 10 typically indicates regular unemployment insurance benefits - it's actually a good sign! This means your claim has been categorized as standard UI rather than any special program. You should be fine as long as you keep filing your weekly claims and meeting the job search requirements.

•Oh thank goodness! I was panicking thinking my claim got flagged for some reason. So I just continue filing weekly like normal?

Code 10 is standard regular UI benefits. Different codes exist for different benefit types - like standby status would have a different code, disability would be different, etc. You're on the regular program which is what most people qualify for after job loss.

•Wait, there are different codes for different benefit types? I'm on standby from my union job - should I have a different code then? Mine also shows 10.

•Standby can still show code 10 in some cases depending on how it's processed in the system. As long as your weekly claims are being accepted and you're following standby procedures, you should be okay.

I've been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months and honestly their coding system is confusing as hell. Half the time representatives give different explanations for the same codes. At least code 10 seems to be consistently regular benefits from what I've experienced.

•So frustrating trying to get through to them on the phone! I waited 3 hours last week just to ask about a simple question. Actually found this service called Claimyr that calls them for you - check out claimyr.com. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me so much time and stress.

•Interesting, never heard of that before. Might be worth looking into since calling them directly is such a nightmare.

Program code 10 = regular UI benefits. You're good to go! Just make sure you're documenting your job search activities properly since they can audit that stuff.
