NYDOL Reconsideration Claim: 24+ hours, no response. What to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I submitted a reconsideration claim to the DOL and I'm still waiting to hear back. It's been over 24 hours since I tried to get in touch with them. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on how to speed up the process or what to expect next?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been waiting for weeks to hear back about my claim. The DOL is so slow, it's ridiculous. Have you tried calling them directly?

I tried calling but couldn't get through. The wait times are insane. šŸ˜«

Pro tip: call right when they open. Sometimes you can catch them before the lines get jammed.

Good idea! I'll try that tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I'm skeptical. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency? šŸ¤”

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through. Worth every penny imo.

How long did you have to wait with this service?

It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to actively wait on the phone. They called me when an agent was ready.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with DOL reconsideration claims: ā€¢ Be patient. It can take weeks or even months to hear back. ā€¢ Make sure all your documentation is in order and easily accessible. ā€¢ Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. ā€¢ Check your online account regularly for updates. ā€¢ If possible, try to find out if there's a specific person handling your case. ā€¢ Sometimes, reaching out to your local representative can help speed things up. Hang in there, OP. The system is frustrating, but persistence usually pays off in the end.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely start keeping a log. Any tips on finding out who's handling my case?

Glad to help! As for finding out who's handling your case, it's tricky. Sometimes if you call and get through, you can ask the rep if there's a specific person assigned. But tbh, it's hit or miss.

This is great advice. I wish I'd known all this when I started my claim. Would've saved me so much headache!

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from DOL end up there. Happened to me and I almost missed a crucial deadline.

Oh snap, I didn't even think of that! Checking now, thanks for the tip!

I heard they recently updated their system. Maybe that's causing delays? Anyone else notice longer wait times lately?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Seems like every time they "upgrade," things get worse before they get better. šŸ™„

Really? I must have missed that. Do you know when this update happened?

I think it was about two weeks ago? Not 100% sure tho

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just be grateful that unemployment benefits exist at all. Some countries don't even have this safety net.

Bruh, just because other places have it worse doesn't mean we can't expect better service here. We pay taxes for this stuff.

I mean, you're not wrong, but that doesn't make the frustration any less real for people struggling rn

Hey OP, what was the reason for your reconsideration claim? I'm thinking about filing one myself and wondering what qualifies.

Atticus Domingo

I was initially denied because of a mixup with my employment dates. Had to submit additional proof to show I was eligible.
