NY unemployment work search form keeps glitching and deleting my entries

Been trying to log my job search activities on the online form for the past few weeks. At first it seemed straightforward - just fill out the details and save. But lately I've been having this weird issue where certain fields won't save properly. I'll enter all the company information, position details and dates, hit save, and then notice that the company name and website fields are completely empty! No error message or anything. What's most frustrating is that I can see the company names in the dropdown menu from previous entries, but when I select them and try to save, those fields still come up blank. I can't even edit them afterward - the only solution is to delete the whole entry and start over. Sometimes starting over works immediately, other times I have to wait several hours before trying again. Is anyone else dealing with this glitch? It's making me nervous about meeting my work search requirements because I don't want it to look like I'm not keeping proper records.

omg yes!!! thought i was going crazy. the stupid form keeps deleting my entries too. especially when i try to use the same company twice (like when following up on applications). I've started taking screenshots of everything before I hit save just in case they try to say i didnt do my search activities.

Screenshots are a good idea! I'm gonna start doing that too. Do u notice it happening more during certain times of day?

seems worse on sundays when everyones doing their weekly certification stuff. system probably overloaded or something 🤷‍♀️

I take screenshots AND keep a paper log. Belt and suspenders approach after I got dinged once for "insufficient work search" when their system ate my entries.

After weeks of dealing with this exact issue, I finally found a way to get help. I used claimyr.com to get a callback from an actual agent (best money I ever spent considering how much back pay I was owed). The agent confirmed this is a known glitch in their system that happens when too many people are using it at once. They suggested completing the form during off-peak hours (early morning or late evening) and using Chrome instead of other browsers. Also, they fixed all my missing entries on their end so I didn't get penalized. Here's a video showing how the callback service works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

is this for real? been trying to get through for 3 weeks with no luck

100% real. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after not being able to reach anyone for almost a month. Got a call back within an hour and the agent fixed all my issues. Talking to a real person made all the difference.

wait so this actually works? seems too good to be true after dealing with this mess for so long

0 coins

Yeah, it actually works. The ny unemployment phone system is basically impossible to navigate otherwise. I got connected to an agent who knew exactly how to fix my glitched work search records.

another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? nobody can get through to these ppl 🙄

0 coins

No catch - they just automated the hold process so you don't have to sit there with your phone for hours. When they get an agent, they connect you. Saved my sanity tbh

I've learned to NEVER use their online work search form. Its a disaster and they regularly lose data. I just keep my own records in a spreadsheet and upload it when they ask for proof. Less headache that way and I have my own backup. The whole ny unemployment website feels like it was built in 1997 and never updated lol.

same here but with a twist - if you leave the form open too long before submitting it times out without warning and all your data is gone. BUT I FOUND A WORKAROUND: if you fill out everything EXCEPT the company name and website first, hit save, then go back in to edit and add those last fields, it usually works. Something about the system not liking when you put all the info in at once. give it a try!

Whoa - I'm definitely trying this workaround tomorrow! Thanks for the tip!

np! let me know if it works for u. also found clearing cache helps sometimes with the form loading properly

Genius. This actually fixed it for me! Been struggling with this for weeks.

I've had this EXACT issue for months now!!! 😡 Called the help line literally 47 times and either get disconnected or told "we're experiencing high call volume goodbye" *click* Finally I just gave up on their stupid online form and started keeping a handwritten log. Now I'm paranoid they'll say it's not valid since I'm not using their system. The ny unemployment dept is a JOKE.

Handwritten is actually valid! I confirmed this in my hearing (long story). Just make sure you have company name, date, position, how you applied, and follow-up action. That's all they legally need.

omg thank you for confirming! been stressing about this for weeks 😅

Here's everything I've learned about fixing the work search form issues after dealing with this for months (and finally getting it resolved): First, this is definitely a known system bug. The form has issues with certain fields not saving correctly, particularly company names and URLs. This happens most often when: - You're using Internet Explorer or Safari (use Chrome or Firefox instead) - You're trying during high-traffic periods (Sunday afternoons are the worst) - Your session has timed out without warning you - You've previously used the company in another entry The best solutions: 1. Take screenshots of EVERYTHING before submitting 2. Keep a separate log as backup (spreadsheet or paper) 3. Try the workaround where you save with partial info first, then edit 4. Clear your browser cache regularly 5. If you have persistent issues that might affect your benefits, use claimyr.com to get a live agent callback instead of waiting on hold for hours When I finally got through to a tier 2 support person, they told me they're aware of these issues but the system update to fix them is perpetually delayed. They can manually fix your records if you can get through to someone with the authority to do so. Hope this helps someone else avoid the nightmare I went through!

This is incredibly helpful - thank you for taking the time to write it all out!

0 coins

How did you get to a tier 2 person? Been stuck with basic agents who cant fix anything

0 coins

Used claimyr.com to get through first, then specifically asked the first agent to transfer me to a tier 2 specialist. Had to be firm but polite about needing someone with access to fix the database entries.

ugh the work search form.... don't even get me started 🤦‍♂️ It's literally broken by design. My conspiracy theory is they WANT it to glitch so they can deny people for "insufficient work search" when it's their own system failing. Super shady.

0 coins

THIS!!! 💯 think about it - if their systems worked perfectly, they'd have to pay everyone promptly. This way they can delay and deny more easily

0 coins

Nah, never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. Their whole system is just outdated garbage running on ancient technology.

I actually complained so much about this that I got put in touch with a supervisor who explained the issue. Apparently if you use certain special characters in any field (like &, %, or sometimes even hyphens), it can cause the data to not save properly. Try avoiding those completely and see if that helps.

i switched to paper forms. online is a TRAP. my freind got audited and even tho she did everything online they said they had no record! Complete bs but took 6 months to resolve and she had to pay back money before they fixed it!!

0 coins

That's terrifying. Did she eventually get the money back after they fixed it?

0 coins

ya but only after getting a lawyer involved. absolute nightmare. ny unemployment system is rigged against us fr

Daily reminder that the entire NY unemployment system runs on COBOL - a programming language from the 1960s. They've been "planning" to update it for over a decade but never allocate enough funding. No wonder things break constantly.

Former IT contractor for a state agency here (not NY). Can confirm many unemployment systems nationwide run on ancient tech. The job search forms are often bolted-on newer features that don't integrate well with the core system. It's amazing they work at all tbh.

my brother works in the ny unemployment office (not IT but adjacent) and he says they're well aware of the work search form issues. internal memo went out months ago but fixing it is "not priority" because it doesn't affect their metrics 🙄 classic government efficiency at work

this makes me so mad. meanwhile WE suffer while they ignore known problems! 🤬
