NY unemployment payment schedule question - still getting benefits after $300 supplement ended?

My coworker got laid off in August and has been collecting unemployment since September. Her benefit year ends next April, and she still has plenty of effective days remaining. She's been getting her payments every Tuesday like clockwork, including that extra $300 supplement. Now that the federal supplement has stopped, will she still get her regular payment on Tuesday? Or does the whole schedule change? She's freaking out because rent is due soon and she needs to know if the money is coming on the usual day just without the extra amount. Anyone gone through this transition period yet?

Liv Park

Yeah the regular payment schedule stays the same. She'll get her normal benefit amount on her usual day (Tuesday in her case). The only difference is the federal supplement ($300) is gone now. The base benefit doesn't change at all, just comes on the same schedule as always. My payments have continued without any hiccups after the supplement ended.

I found this awesome service called Claimyr that helped me when I had questions about my benefits timing. I was in the same situation as your friend - panicking about when money would hit my account. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast! Check out this video that explains how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? I've tried calling the unemployment office like 50 times and can never get through

Yeah it actually works! They basically call for you and stay on hold, then when a real person picks up, they connect you. Saved me HOURS of my life and I finally got answers about my payment schedule.

hmm I've been burned by so many of these 'services' before... what makes this different? Do they need access to ur account or anything?

Nope! You just tell them what department you need to reach. They call, wait on hold (which took 3 hours in my case), then call you when they get a real person. You talk directly to the unemployment office yourself. Check out their site claimyr.com

Yea tell her not to worry. The regular payments happen on the same day as always. I claim on Sunday, get paid Wednesday, like clockwork. The only thing that changed was the amount - its $300 less now that the federal supplement is gone. All the other stuff stays the same.

Thx for confirming! She was worried the whole system would change or something. Rent is due and shes cutting it close this month 😬

I heard some ppl had a 1-week delay when the supplement ended, but most got their regular payment on time. It depends if she had any breaks in her claim. If she's been continuously certifying, it should come as normal.

She hasn't had any breaks, been claiming every week since September. Hoping it comes as usual 🤞

The payment schedule is 100% the same. Just to be super clear tho - does she understand the payment will be smaller? I've seen people flip out when they suddenly got $300 less even though they knew it was coming. Just make sure she's prepared for the lower amount so she can budget properly.

Yeah she knows about the $300 ending. She's just worried about WHEN she'll get the regular amount because she's scheduled all her autopay bills for the day after her normal UI deposit.

In that case she should be fine with the timing! It'll hit her account same as always.

Nothing in the state system changes. Your friend will get her benefit on the same day, just without the extra federal money. I've been on UI for over a year (don't judge lol) and have seen all the transitions - when supplements started, when they increased, decreased, and ended. The base payment timing never changed once.

One thing to keep in mind - if she hasn't recertified since the supplement ended, she might see a weird message on the website about a change to her claim. DONT PANIC. This is normal. It's just the system updating to remove the supplement. The base benefit and payment day stay the same.

Omg thank you for mentioning this! She just texted me freaking out about some message. I'll let her know it's normal.

Yep the NY unemployment website is notorious for scary-sounding messages that don't actually mean anything bad is happening 🙄 Classic govt design lol

Has she already certified for this week? The schedule stays the same, but she needs to make sure she's still doing her weekly certifications on time. That's the only thing that would mess up the timing - if she forgets to certify thinking something changed with the process.

Yes she certified Sunday like usual

Just to add another voice to what everyone's saying - I've been on unemployment for 9 months and my payment schedule has been rock solid. Even when the $300 ended, my base amount still hit my account exactly when expected. The system is frustrating in many ways, but at least the payment timing is reliable.

Tell her look at her payment history in her online account. She can see the usual pattern there. The nice thing is the payment history shows the breakdown between regular UI and the federal supplement, so she can even see exactly what her new payment will be without the extra $300.

Great suggestion! I'll tell her to check that.

I just went through this last week. Payment hit my account right on schedule, just $300 lighter. But the day stayed exactly the same. Your friend will be fine as long as she's not counting on that extra $300 for bills.

When i had this same question I couldn't get a straight answer online so I finally broke down and used claimyr.com to reach a live agent. They confirmed the payment schedule stays the same even though the amount changes. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after days of trying.

Did you actually get through to someone? I've been trying to call for weeks.

Yes! They got me through in about 2 hours when I had been trying for days on my own. They just stay on hold for you and then call when a rep answers.

LOL everyones over here stressing about when their payments are coming and I'm over here on week 13 of "pending" with zero dollars received 💀 The NY unemployment system is a complete joke.

Have you tried calling? I was pending for 6 weeks and one phone call fixed it.

After the $300 supplement ended, I actually got an email from NY unemployment confirming that regular benefit payments would continue on the same schedule. Tell your friend to check her email - she might have gotten something similar. It specifically said payment days would remain unchanged.

I'm a career counselor who works with people on unemployment. Here's the definitive answer to your question: The payment schedule for NY unemployment remains exactly the same after the federal supplement ends. Your friend will continue to receive her base benefit amount on the same day she's been getting it (Tuesday in her case). The only change is the amount will be $300 less now that the federal enhancement has ended. A few important points to remember: - Her BYE (Benefit Year End) date in March doesn't change - Her weekly certification process stays the same - Her payment day remains consistent - Direct deposit or debit card method stays the same - Remaining effective days continue to count down as usual If she encounters any issues with her claim, I highly recommend using claimyr.com to reach a live agent. It's by far the most reliable way to get help with NY unemployment questions. Many of my clients have used it successfully when they had urgent payment issues that needed resolution. Hope this helps clarify things for your friend!

I know people are saying the payment schedule stays the same, but I had a weird experience where my payment was delayed by one day the first week after the $300 ended. It was just a one-time thing though, and then it went back to normal. So if it's one day late, tell her not to panic.

Same thing happened to me! I think the system had a hiccup that first transition week.

Your friend needs to be aware that while the payment schedule stays the same, there have been LOTS of glitches in the system lately. I've seen people randomly get flagged for review right after the supplement ended. It's probably fine but she should keep an eye on her account.

This 👆 My roommate's account got flagged for "additional review" right when the supplement ended. Took him calling (using that claimyr service) to get it fixed.
