NY unemployment contact number - can't find correct NY Senate phone number

Can anyone tell me the correct NY State Senate phone number? I've been trying to call about my unemployment issue but keep getting different numbers online. The NYSDOL keeps giving me the runaround about my claim from February 2025 and I need to speak with someone in the Senate office who can actually help. I think I need to file some kind of complaint or get help from my representative??? So frustrated!!!

The NY State Senate has different numbers depending on which Senator you're trying to reach. You need to find your specific district's Senator to get help with unemployment issues. Go to nysenate.gov and enter your address in the 'Find My Senator' tool. Each Senator's office has their own contact number listed on their profile page.

Thanks but I tried that already! The website is confusing and I couldn't find my senator. Do they have a MAIN number I can call??

Calling the senate probably won't help much with unemployment tbh. They'll just refer you back to DOL. I've been through this nightmare already.

So what did you do??? I've been waiting 6 weeks for my benefits and nobody at NYSDOL will talk to me!

The main number for the NY State Senate is (518) 455-2800. But honestly, that won't get you very far with unemployment issues. What specific problem are you having with your claim? There might be better ways to resolve it than going through the Senate.

THANK YOU!!! My claim has been pending since Feb 10th and every time I call NYSDOL I can't get through. I wait for HOURS and then get disconnected. I just need someone to look at my claim!!!

I had the same issue last month! Calling that Senate number won't help at all - they'll just transfer you somewhere else or tell you to go back to DOL. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual agent at NYSDOL. I was skeptical but it actually connected me within like 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

is that legit? sounds sketchy to have to use a service just to talk to unemployment ppl...

Totally get the skepticism! I felt the same way. But it worked when nothing else did. They basically hold your place in line and call you when they get an agent. Saved me days of frustration.

I'll try anything at this point! Going to check it out now, thanks!

For the record, here are the correct contacts: 1. NYSDOL general claims: 888-209-8124 (but yes, extremely hard to get through) 2. NY State Senate main switchboard: (518) 455-2800 3. Your specific Senator's office (much more effective than the main number) 4. NYS Assembly member for your district (often better for constituent services) If your claim has been pending since February, you can also try submitting the secure message form through your NY.gov account. Be specific about the issue, include your claim ID, and note how long you've been waiting. Sometimes this gets results faster than calling.

I tried the secure message THREE TIMES already and got nothing back!!! This is why I'm so frustrated!!

In that case, I'd recommend either: 1) Contact both your State Senator AND Assembly member (do both), or 2) Try a service to get through to NYSDOL directly. The constituent services route can take 1-2 weeks but they do have special channels to escalate claims.

i had to call my senators office like 6 times before they helped me. the receptionist kept saying they'd call back but never did. finally i went in PERSON to their district office (not in albany) and that got results. they have local offices u can visit.

That's a good idea! I'll look up where my local office is. Didn't even think about going in person.

To actually answer your original question properly: The NY State Senate main switchboard is (518) 455-2800. Individual senator contact info is at nysenate.gov/senators-committees. The NYSDOL Commissioner's Office is (518) 457-9000 (though they'll likely refer you back to the main unemployment line). For unemployment specifically, the Telephone Claims Center is 888-209-8124 (M-F, 8am-6pm). But as others have mentioned, getting through is the hard part.

Thank you so much for all the numbers! I'm going to try the commissioner's office tomorrow.

btw when i was in your situation i eventually got through by calling EXACTLY at 8:00am the second they opened. Like i had my phone ready and kept hitting redial. Still took 3 days but finally got someone.

I tried that too!!! I set my alarm for 7:55am and started calling right at 8 and STILL couldn't get through. It's like they don't want to help people.

UPDATE: I tried the Claimyr thing someone suggested and it actually worked! Got connected to a real person at NYSDOL after trying for weeks. They fixed my claim issue - turns out there was a verification problem they never told me about. My payments should start processing now. Thanks everyone for the help!!!

That's great news! Glad you got it resolved. For future reference though, your state representatives really can help with these issues too - just takes longer. They have staff specifically for helping constituents with state agency problems.
