NY unemployment ID.me verification error code preventing claim access - help!
I'm trying to verify my identity for NY unemployment through ID.me but I keep getting an error code every single time! The system just crashes when I upload my driver's license and gives me some technical error message. I've tried 6 times already using both my phone and laptop. This is making me so angry because I can't access my benefits without completing this verification. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? I really need this money for rent next week!

•Exactly what's happening to me too! Did you try using a different browser? I'm about to try Firefox instead of Chrome to see if that helps.

Try clearing your cache and cookies. That worked for me when I was getting the error codes last month. Also make sure your camera permissions are enabled for the website.

•Thanks, I'll try clearing my cache right now. Do you remember what error code you were getting? Mine says something about "verification session expired" even though I just started the process.

These ID.me verification issues are unfortunately common with NY unemployment. Here are some specific troubleshooting steps that have worked for others: 1. Use Chrome in incognito mode or Safari (Firefox sometimes has compatibility issues) 2. Make sure you're using a strong internet connection (not public WiFi) 3. Ensure your ID document is on a plain dark background with good lighting 4. If you get the error during the selfie verification, try in a different location with better lighting 5. Check that your phone/camera is not in battery saving mode which can affect camera quality If you continue having problems after trying these steps, you can request a video chat verification through ID.me directly, which bypasses some of the automated systems.

•Thank you so much for these detailed tips! I just tried the incognito mode suggestion and I got further in the process, but then it crashed again during the selfie verification. I think I'll try your suggestion about better lighting. My apartment is pretty dark.

When I had this problem in January, I fixed it by using my phone instead of my computer. Make sure your ID.me app is updated to the latest version. Also, does your error code start with VC-? Those are usually related to camera verification issues.

•Yes! It's a VC-something error! I'll check if there's an app update available. Did it take a long time for your benefits to come through after you finally got verified?

I spent DAYS trying to get through this ID.me nonsense last month!!! The system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and NYSDOL doesn't care at all about us!! I kept getting error codes and tried EVERYTHING - different devices, browsers, lighting, you name it. Nothing worked and my benefits were delayed for 3 weeks!!! This is how they try to stop people from getting the money they deserve!!!

•That's exactly what I'm worried about - waiting weeks for my benefits. Did you eventually get it to work or did you have to call them?

Have you tried reaching out to ID.me support directly? They actually have a help desk separate from NYSDOL that can troubleshoot specific error codes. I had to do this when I kept getting stuck in February. If you're seeing a specific error code, write it down exactly as it appears and include it in your support request.

•id.me support is useless, i emailed them 3 days ago about my error and still no response

After struggling with ID.me errors for days, I finally got through by using Claimyr to reach an actual NY unemployment agent. The agent was able to flag my account for manual verification which bypassed the ID.me issues. Saved me so much stress! Check out their site claimyr.com - they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE showing how it works. It was the only way I could get someone on the phone without waiting for hours.

•I've never heard of Claimyr before. Does it actually work? I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point because I can't afford to wait weeks for this to resolve.

•Yes, it definitely worked for me! I was skeptical too, but I was able to talk to a real NYSDOL agent who helped fix my account verification issues. The agent told me there was a known issue with certain types of ID documentation causing errors, and they manually verified me instead.

I recommend trying one more approach before looking at third-party services: call NYSDOL first thing in the morning right when they open (7:30am). That's when wait times are shortest. Specifically tell them you're having an "ID.me technical error preventing claim access" - using those exact words often routes you to technical support faster. Ask them to notate your account that you've been attempting verification but encountering system errors.

•Thanks for the tip about calling right when they open. I'll set my alarm and try tomorrow morning. I'll use that exact phrasing too. I really appreciate everyone's help with this frustrating situation!

did you make sure your id isnt expired? my friend had the same problem and it was because his license expired last month and he didnt notice. the error message never said anything about expiration though, just some random code.

•That's a good point! I just checked and my license is still valid for another year, so that's not the issue. The error seems to happen specifically during the face verification step.

If the selfie verification is where you're getting stuck, try these exact steps that worked for me: 1. Use a solid color wall as background (white or light blue works best) 2. Make sure light is coming from in front of you, not behind 3. Remove glasses, hats, or anything on your face 4. Hold your phone at eye level (not looking down at it) 5. Move slowly when following the prompts Also, their system sometimes has maintenance periods late at night, so try during business hours if possible.

•These are really helpful specific tips! I'll definitely try again with better lighting and a plain background. I was doing it with my window behind me which probably created shadows on my face.

Just checking back - were you able to resolve this issue? I'm curious if any of the suggestions worked for you, as I'm helping my brother who's running into similar ID.me verification problems with his NY unemployment claim.
