Missed career appointment, account on hold - no benefits after completing requirements
Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot with ny unemployment. I missed my career appointment on the 25th, but I went in on the 29th and did everything they told me to do. I've claimed my benefits for two Sundays since then, but I still haven't received anything. My account is on hold and I'm getting worried. Has anyone else dealt with this? How long does it usually take for them to lift the hold?

Ugh, that sucks. The system is so messed up. I had a similar issue last year and it took them like 3 weeks to sort it out. Keep claiming every week tho!

•3 weeks?! 😱 I can't wait that long. Did you have to do anything special to get it fixed?

•Nah, just kept claiming and eventually it worked itself out. But def try calling if you can get through!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Sounds sketchy. Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it to get my issue resolved quickly.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone. They texted me when an agent was on the line.

Classic NYSDOL 🙄 Always finding new ways to make our lives harder. Have you tried reaching out on Twitter? Sometimes they respond there.

Yo, I've been there. It's a total clown show 🤡 Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Dates, times, who you talked to. It'll help if you need to appeal later.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep certifying every week, even if you're not getting paid. 2. Try calling the ny unemployment office first thing in the morning, right when they open. It's your best shot at getting through. 3. If you can't get through on the phone, consider using a service like Claimyr. It costs a bit, but it can save you hours of frustration. 4. Check your online account for any messages or requests for additional information. 5. If it's been more than 2 weeks since you completed the requirements, file for a hearing. You can do this online. 6. Reach out to your local state representative. They sometimes can help push things along. 7. Don't give up! The system is slow, but persistence pays off. Remember, you're not alone in this. Lots of us have been in the same boat. Hang in there! 💪

•This is solid advice. I'd add: check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important emails end up there.

I went through this exact same thing a few months ago! The hold after missing an appointment is so frustrating. In my case, it took about 10-12 days after completing the makeup requirements for the hold to be lifted. The key things that helped me: 1. I kept certifying every week even though I wasn't getting paid - this is crucial! 2. I called every morning right at 8am when they opened. Took me 5 days to finally get through. 3. When I did get someone on the phone, they were able to see that I had completed everything and manually released the hold. The waiting is the worst part, but don't panic. As long as you completed all the requirements they asked for, you should get backpay for all the weeks you certified. Document everything like others mentioned - dates, confirmation numbers, etc. You've got this! 💪

•This is super helpful, thank you! @Diego Vargas 10-12 days doesn t'sound too bad compared to what I was imagining. I m'definitely going to try calling first thing in the morning like you suggested. Did you have any specific number that worked better, or just the main unemployment line?

I'm dealing with something similar right now too! Missed my appointment two weeks ago and just completed the makeup requirements last Friday. Still waiting for the hold to be lifted. It's so stressful when you're counting on those benefits. Reading through everyone's advice here is really helpful - sounds like patience and persistence are key. Going to start calling first thing in the morning like others suggested. Thanks for posting this @Dylan Wright, at least we know we're not alone in this mess! 🤞

•@Mary Bates You re'definitely not alone! I m'going through the exact same thing right now. It s'such a relief to see so many people sharing their experiences here. The waiting and uncertainty is the worst part, but sounds like most people do get it resolved eventually. I m'going to follow the advice everyone s'given - keep certifying, call early in the morning, and document everything. Fingers crossed for both of us! 🤞

I'm going through this exact situation right now too! Just missed my appointment last Thursday and did the makeup on Monday. My account is still on hold and I'm stressed about when it'll get resolved. Reading everyone's experiences here is giving me some hope though - sounds like 10-12 days seems to be pretty typical once you complete the requirements. I'm definitely going to start calling first thing at 8am like @Diego Vargas suggested. Has anyone had luck with any specific tips for getting through on the phone faster? The busy signal is driving me crazy! Thanks for starting this thread @Dylan Wright - it's so helpful to know we're all dealing with the same broken system together 🙏

•@PixelWarrior I feel you on the busy signal frustration! I've been dealing with this for about a week now. One thing that's helped me a bit is using the redial function on my phone - I just keep hitting redial every few seconds instead of manually dialing each time. Also, I noticed that sometimes if I wait a minute or two and try again, I might get through to the hold queue instead of getting the busy signal right away. Still haven't actually talked to anyone yet, but at least I'm making some progress! We'll get through this eventually 💪

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Missed my appointment on August 30th, completed all the makeup requirements on September 5th, and my account has been on hold ever since. It's been almost 3 weeks now and I'm starting to panic. Reading through everyone's experiences here is giving me a little hope though - sounds like most people do eventually get it resolved, even if it takes longer than we'd like. I've been trying the early morning calling strategy but haven't gotten through yet. The financial stress is killing me but at least I know I'm not the only one dealing with this broken system. Thanks for posting this @Dylan Wright - really needed to see that others are going through the same thing. Going to keep pushing and document everything like everyone suggested! 🙏

•@Libby Hassan I m'so sorry you re'going through this too! 3 weeks is way too long - that s'really frustrating. Have you tried documenting everything and maybe reaching out to your local state representative like @QuantumQuest suggested? Sometimes they can help push things along when the system gets stuck like this. Also, if you haven t'already, maybe consider that Claimyr service that @Sofia Ramirez mentioned - $20 might be worth it if it helps you finally talk to someone after 3 weeks of trying. Don t give'up! You ve done'everything right, it s just'the system being terrible as usual.

I'm dealing with this same situation right now - missed my appointment on September 10th and completed the makeup requirements on the 15th. My account has been on hold for almost 2 weeks now. The stress is real when you're depending on these benefits! Reading everyone's experiences here is actually really comforting though. Sounds like the 10-12 day timeframe that @Diego Vargas mentioned is pretty typical, so I'm trying to stay patient. I've been following the advice here - certifying every week, trying to call at 8am sharp, and documenting everything. Still haven't gotten through on the phone but I'm not giving up. Thanks for starting this thread @Dylan Wright - it's so helpful to see we're all dealing with the same frustrating system together. Hopefully we'll all get our holds lifted soon! 🤞

•@Jamal Anderson Hang in there! I m'in a similar boat - missed my appointment about 10 days ago and just completed everything they asked for. The waiting game is brutal when you re'counting on those benefits to pay rent and bills. It s'actually really reassuring to see so many people sharing their timelines here - seems like most folks do get it resolved within 2-3 weeks even if it feels like forever. I m'going to keep trying the 8am calling strategy too. We ve'all done what we re'supposed to do, now it s'just waiting for their slow system to catch up. Stay strong! 💪

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Missed my appointment on September 18th and completed all the makeup requirements on the 22nd. It's been about 10 days now and my account is still on hold. The anxiety is killing me because I really need those benefits to cover my expenses. But reading through everyone's experiences here is giving me so much hope - it sounds like the 10-12 day timeline that @Diego Vargas mentioned is pretty standard, and most people do get it resolved eventually. I've been following all the advice from this thread: certifying every week even though I'm not getting paid, trying to call right at 8am when they open, and keeping detailed records of everything. Haven't gotten through on the phone yet but I'm not giving up! It's honestly such a relief to know I'm not the only one dealing with this nightmare. The NY unemployment system is so broken but at least we're all supporting each other through it. Thanks @Dylan Wright for starting this thread - it's exactly what I needed to see today! 🙏

•@Freya Thomsen I m'literally in the exact same boat! Just missed my appointment last week and completed the makeup requirements 3 days ago. The waiting is so stressful when you re'already struggling financially. But this thread has been such a lifesaver - seeing everyone s'timelines and knowing that most people get it resolved within 2-3 weeks is keeping me sane. I ve'been doing the 8am calling thing too with no luck yet, but I m'going to keep trying. We re'all in this together! The system is terrible but at least we have each other for support. Stay strong! 💪
