ID.me verification worked but NY unemployment system says "something doesn't match" - what to do?

I finally got through the ID.me verification for my NY unemployment claim (took forever!) but now I'm stuck. When I try to release my information to NYSDOL, I keep getting this frustrating message saying "something doesn't match" but it doesn't tell me WHAT doesn't match! Has anyone else dealt with this in 2025? What am I supposed to do next? My claim has been pending for 3 weeks already and I'm getting really worried about paying rent.

Did you ever get it resolved? I'm about to lose my mind over this!

This is a common issue with the ID.me integration. The mismatch usually happens when there's a discrepancy between your ID.me information and what's in the NYSDOL system. Check these things: 1. Make sure your name is EXACTLY the same in both systems (including middle initial) 2. Verify your SSN is entered correctly 3. Check if your birthdate format matches (some use MM/DD/YYYY vs DD/MM/YYYY) 4. Ensure your address is consistent If all that looks correct, you'll need to speak with an actual agent. The online system can't resolve these verification mismatches automatically.

Thanks for this! I double-checked all this stuff and everything looks right. My name is exactly the same, SSN is correct, and birthdate is in the right format. I think I need to talk to a real person but I can't get through on the phone.

Actually this happened to me too. For me the problem was that my married name was on my ID but my maiden name was still in the NYSDOL system from my previous job. Had to call about 50 times before I finally got through to someone who could fix it.

After dealing with this exact problem last month, I can tell you that you NEED to speak with an agent to resolve it. The mismatch could be something tiny like your address having "Street" vs "St" or even a middle initial problem. I wasted days trying to get through on the phone until I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an agent in under 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I got through, the agent saw that my DOB had been entered wrong in the system (they had transposed the month and day). They fixed it right away and my claim was processed within 48 hours.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm desperate at this point so I'll try anything. Did you have to provide a lot of personal info to this Claimyr thing? I'm always nervous about third-party services.

They just need your phone number to connect the call. The agent I spoke with at NYSDOL saw it was something simple - my address in ID.me had "Avenue" spelled out but the DOL system had "Ave". Seriously took 2 minutes to fix once I actually got someone on the phone.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO FAIL!!! They make these stupid verification systems impossible to navigate and then make it IMPOSSIBLE to reach a human being when it inevitably breaks!!! They WANT us to give up so they don't have to pay claims!! I spent WEEKS trying to fix this EXACT problem until I finally got through to a supervisor who admitted they've had this issue since they implemented ID.me!!!

Just adding my experience with this - I had the same problem in January. For me it turned out my ID.me account had my current address but my unemployment application had my previous address. I finally got through to someone by calling exactly at 8:00am when they open. The agent updated my address in their system and then the ID.me verification went through fine the next day.

Thanks for sharing! I'll try calling right when they open tomorrow morning. Did you have to be on hold for a long time even calling at 8am?

I was on hold for about 45 minutes which isn't great but better than the 3+ hours I waited when I tried calling mid-day. Good luck!

One more important thing to check - make sure your ID.me account email matches the email you used for your unemployment application. I've seen several cases where that caused matching issues. If you've already verified all possible matching issues and still need to speak with an agent, be prepared to explain that you've already completed ID.me verification but are encountering a data matching error when connecting to NYSDOL. Ask specifically for a "verification override" - most agents know what this is and can help. Keep a record of all your call attempts (dates/times) in case you need to request backdating for any payments missed during this delay.

This is super helpful! I just checked and my emails ARE different - I used my personal email for ID.me but my work email for the unemployment application since that's what I had when I first applied. Could that be causing this? I'll ask about the "verification override" once I get through to someone.

Yes! That's almost certainly the issue. The email mismatch is one of the most common causes of the ID.me integration failure. Once you get an agent on the phone, have them update your email in the NYSDOL system to match your ID.me email. That should resolve it!

Any update? Were you able to get this resolved? I'm having the same issue now and wondering what worked for you.

Yes! I finally got it fixed yesterday. The problem WAS the email mismatch. I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned above and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They updated my email in the system to match my ID.me email, and then I had to log out, wait an hour, and try again. It worked! My claim is now processing and they said I should get my back payments within 3 business days. Such a relief!
