I just filed my initial claim with NYS Department of Labor last Tuesday and I'm wondering what the typical timeline is for actually receiving benefits? My former employer laid me off due to company restructuring and I submitted all my documentation through the online portal. I know I have to wait one week but when should I expect my first payment after that? I'm getting anxious about my rent payment coming up.

The phone lines are definitely brutal - I've called probably 20 times and only got through once, but they were actually really helpful when I did reach someone. They explained that marketing job layoffs sometimes trigger additional verification since it's a field with a lot of contract work mixed in. Maybe try calling right when they open at 8am? That seems to be when most people have success.
