I've been trying to get through to NYS Department of Labor for weeks to ask this exact question but their phone lines are impossible. Tried calling at 8am sharp and still couldn't get through. It's so frustrating when you need a simple answer about work rules. Finally found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to an agent in like 10 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me so much stress trying to figure this out on my own.
Just remember you still have to do your job search activities even if you're working part-time! I made that mistake and almost got in trouble during my eligibility review. Three job contacts per week unless you're in standby status.
I had such a hard time getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I had questions about my benefit amount calculation. Kept calling and either got busy signals or got disconnected after waiting on hold for hours. Finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person at NYS Department of Labor. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Was able to get my questions answered about why my benefit amount seemed lower than expected.
It's definitely worth it when you're stuck and can't get answers any other way. Way better than spending weeks trying to get through on your own.
Don't forget you can also qualify for additional benefits sometimes. When I was on unemployment last year I also got help with my electric bill through HEAP and food assistance. Every little bit helps when you're only getting half your normal income.
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to check on your adjudication status, I had success using Claimyr to help me reach an agent. It's at claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Really helped me get answers about my pending claim when I couldn't get through on my own.
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been trying to call for days but keep getting disconnected. Will definitely check that out.
Current unemployment rate being 4.2% means the job market is actually pretty good right now. Your delay is probably just normal NYS Department of Labor bureaucracy. Keep filing your weekly claims even while in adjudication - that's important for maintaining your claim.
Yes I've been keeping up with my weekly claims. Good to know the job market is decent though, gives me hope for finding something soon.
Just make sure you have all your documentation ready when you file. Keep the 1099-G form and any records of taxes you had withheld from your weekly claims. If you moved during the year while on unemployment, that can complicate things too.
omg same situation here!! got laid off in march and was on UI until november. dreading tax time so much right now ðŸ˜
At least we're not alone in this! Hopefully it won't be as bad as we think.

If your employer disputes your claim, it goes into adjudication and can take weeks to resolve. I've been waiting 3 weeks for my adjudication decision and still haven't heard anything. The NYS Department of Labor phone lines are impossible to get through - I've called hundreds of times. Someone recently told me about this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you actually reach NYS Department of Labor agents by phone. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Might be worth checking out if you run into issues getting through to them.

•3 weeks in adjudication is brutal... I hope you hear something soon. The waiting is the worst part.

Also remember you have to be able and available for work and actively looking for a job. That means registering on the NY job portal and doing job search activities every week. Don't skip this part - they can audit your job search log at any time and if you haven't been keeping up with the requirements, they can disqualify you even if you qualified initially.

•How many job search activities do I need to do per week? The website wasn't super clear about the exact number.

•It's 3 job search activities per week minimum. Can be job applications, networking events, career fairs, interviews, etc. Just keep detailed records of everything.
