How soon do you get unemployment after filing NYS Department of Labor claim?
Filed my initial unemployment claim with NYS Department of Labor last Monday and I'm wondering when I can expect to see payments. My employer laid me off two weeks ago and I'm already behind on rent. The website says my claim is 'under review' but doesn't give any timeline. Has anyone gotten their first payment yet and how long did it take? Really need to know what to expect here.

It usually takes 2-3 weeks from when you file your initial claim to receive your first payment, assuming there are no issues with your application. You also need to complete your weekly certifications during this time. The 'under review' status is normal - they're verifying your employment history and eligibility.

YES you absolutely need to keep filing your weekly claims! I made that mistake my first time and it delayed everything by another 2 weeks. Even if your initial claim is still pending, you have to certify every week or you lose those weeks completely.

Mine went through pretty fast actually got my first payment in like 10 days but I think I got lucky. Make sure you have all your employer information correct on the application because any mistakes will slow things down.
