Has anyone gotten a NY unemployment tax refund for the federal $10,200 exclusion yet?

Exactly the same for me. "In process" forever. Do you know if there's any timeframe they've announced for getting these out?

mine says "in process" too... like wtf does that even mean? are they actually doing anything or just making us wait for no reason 🤔

No idea on the timeframe. I tried calling but u know how that goes...endless hold music then disconnected 😡

Yeah it actually does! I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after 4 months of waiting. They basically call for you and then connect you when they get a human on the line.

I used it last week actually. Got through in about 45 mins when I had been trying for days on my own with no luck. The agent I talked to said they're backed up but was able to check my specific case.

It's not some miracle fix to get your money faster, it just gets you through to an actual person instead of the automated system hell. But talking to someone was the only way I got answers.

Did they send it to same account as your original refund? Or did they mail a check?

Same account as original refund. No notice at all, just appeared in my account as a deposit from NY State Tax.

That gives me hope! What was the deposit labeled as? Just trying to make sure I don't miss it.

It said "NYS DTF REFUND" on my bank statement. Amount was less than I expected tho, only got $623 when I thought it would be more like $700.

Not to defend them but several other states are just as bad. My brother lives in California and is still waiting on his too.

Factz. And they charge interest and penalties if WE are late but they can take as long as they want.

Good to know about the December timeline, I was wondering if I should just give up. Also had no idea about that income limitation - that might be why some ppl are getting less than expected.

Just to add to this - I spoke with someone yesterday and they confirmed this timeline. Also if your income was over that threshold, they calculate a partial exclusion.

This right here ⬆️ its by design. The more people who give up, the more money they keep.

You shouldn't have to amend. NY is supposed to be adjusting automatically based on what the IRS sent them. H&R Block might just be trying to charge you for an amendment you don't need.

I was told the same thing by Jackson Hewitt but when I called NY tax dept they said DO NOT AMEND. They're doing it automatically and if you amend it actually slows down the process.

YES!! Got the same thing in mid-October. Letter said "Your account has been adjusted based on the unemployment compensation exclusion" but no money yet.

Glad its not just me. Wonder how long after the letter the actual money comes...

I got my deposit exactly 16 days after that letter, so hang in there!
