I had trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor when I needed to check on my claim status after being fired. Kept getting busy signals for weeks. Found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that actually got me connected to a real person at NYS Department of Labor in like 20 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI. Might be worth trying if you run into the same phone issues I did.
Look, the system is set up to deny benefits to people who quit, period. They'll find any excuse to say you didn't have good enough cause. I've seen people with documented harassment get denied because they didn't follow some bureaucratic procedure. If you absolutely have to quit, make sure you have rock solid documentation and even then be prepared to fight for months.
THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SO SLOW! I waited almost a month and had to call like 50 times before anyone would tell me what was happening with my claim. They act like they're doing you a favor when it's YOUR money you paid into the system!
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to ask questions (their lines are always busy), I recently used a service called Claimyr that helped me reach an actual agent quickly. Check out claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me hours of calling and getting busy signals when I needed to check my claim status.

Just remember that if you were fired for misconduct or quit without good cause, you might not qualify. Also don't lie about anything because they check everything and fraud penalties are no joke.

Good luck! I remember being just as confused when I first filed. Once you get the hang of the weekly claims it becomes routine. Just stay on top of it and don't miss any weeks.
