Getting through to someone at NYS Department of Labor to clarify eligibility questions used to be impossible until I found claimyr.com. They help you actually reach a real agent who can explain your specific situation. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way better than spending hours on hold or getting hung up on.
THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!!! The government tracks every penny you make. I got flagged for working ONE DAY and they demanded proof I reported it. The whole system is designed to catch you making mistakes so they can take your benefits away.
The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a JOKE! They process everything slowly on purpose to save money. My claim has been 'under review' for three weeks now with ZERO communication. Meanwhile bills keep coming and they act like we don't matter!!
Whatever you do, don't count on getting the maximum amount. The system is designed to lowball everyone. I made $65k and only got $380/week. It's better than nothing but definitely not enough to maintain your lifestyle while job hunting.
Just to add - you can collect for up to 26 weeks in NY, but you have to meet the work search requirements every week. Keep good records of your job applications because they do audit those sometimes.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone to check on your claim status or resolve any issues, I used a service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to an agent. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I was stuck in adjudication and couldn't get anyone on the phone.

•How much does something like that cost though? Seems like you shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to someone at the agency you're trying to get benefits from.

•I thought the same thing at first, but when you're stressed about bills and can't get through after calling 50+ times, it was worth it for the peace of mind. The video demo explains everything if you want to see how it works first.

Once you file your initial claim, you'll need to file weekly claims every week to keep getting benefits. Don't forget to do this even if your claim is still pending - you can lose weeks of benefits if you don't certify.
