Just a quick follow-up tip: When you call, if you reach an agent who seems unsure about how to help with ID.me verification issues, politely ask to be transferred to a Tier 2 specialist. The frontline agents sometimes don't have the system access needed to see the verification status or to push it through the review process. The Tier 2 specialists have more tools at their disposal for these specific issues.
Any update? Did you get through to them? I'm curious if they're still having the same issues with ID.me that they had when I dealt with them.
I finally got through today using that Claimyr service someone mentioned! You were all right - the agent said my ID.me verification was received but sitting in a queue waiting for someone to review it. She escalated it and said I should see the payment in 3-5 business days. Fingers crossed! Thank you all for the advice.
not to change the subject but does anyone know if they're gonna extend benefits again this year? my 26 weeks are almost up and im still looking for work
I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! Been trying to update my bank info for over a week after my credit union account was closed. The "information mismatched" error is driving me crazy - I've triple-checked everything and it's all correct. What's really frustrating is that when I call, I get different answers from different reps. One told me to wait for the KeyBank card, another said I should keep trying to update online, and a third one said there's nothing they can do until their IT department fixes the glitch. @Adrian Connor - thanks for sharing your experience with Claimyr, I might have to try that service too if I can't get through today. Did they charge you upfront or only if they successfully connect you to an agent? This whole situation is such a mess. How can a state system be this broken for weeks without a proper fix?
The NYS Department of Labor system is so outdated it's ridiculous. Half the time their website doesn't even work properly and then they lock your account for trying to access YOUR OWN BENEFITS. This state needs to invest in better IT infrastructure.
I had this exact same issue a few months ago! What worked for me was going to a local Career Center - they have staff who can help unlock your account on the spot. You can find locations at labor.ny.gov/career-center-locator. Bring photo ID and your SSN. They were able to unlock mine in about 10 minutes and helped me reset everything. Way faster than trying to get through on the phone!
Just to add some helpful information: You can check what you've already had withheld by logging into your NY.gov account, going to Unemployment Services, and selecting 'Payment History.' This will show each payment with tax withholding amounts. If you're concerned about whether you've withheld enough, speaking with a tax professional now rather than waiting until tax season might be worthwhile.
Just wanted to chime in as someone who went through this exact confusion last year! I also got mixed up thinking unemployment wasn't taxable anymore. What really helped me was setting up automatic transfers - every time I get my unemployment payment, I immediately move 15% to a separate "tax savings" account (10% for federal, 5% for state). That way I don't even see that money and won't be tempted to spend it. When tax time comes around, I'll have more than enough set aside and might even get a small refund. It's been a lifesaver for budgeting!

yeah layoffs definitely count, that's like the main reason unemployment exists lol. just don't mess up your weekly claims once you start getting them

Don't panic - you're definitely eligible since you were laid off due to downsizing (not misconduct). File your claim immediately at labor.ny.gov, don't wait even a day. You'll need your SSN, employer info, last day worked, and reason for separation. The weekly benefit amount is based on your earnings history. Also, start looking for work right away since you'll need to certify weekly that you're actively job searching. Sorry this happened to you, but the system is there for exactly this situation.
