Wednesday mornings for me, like clockwork. Been on unemployment for 3 months now and it's always Wednesday around 6am if I file Sunday night. Your bank might be different though.
I'm new to the unemployment system and just filed my first claim last week. Reading through these responses is really helpful! One thing I'm wondering - do you get any kind of notification when the payment is actually sent, or do you just have to keep checking your bank account? Also, is there a specific time of day when NYS Department of Labor usually releases payments, or does it vary? Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone!
Good looking out! I'm still pretty new to this whole process and wasn't sure if the delay was normal or if something was wrong with my claim. Really appreciate community members like you sharing this info 🙏
@Andre Dupont totally understand the confusion! I went through the same thing my first few months. The holiday delays are super predictable once you know the pattern - any federal holiday that falls on Monday will push everything back a day. Memorial Day, Labor Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, etc. Just bookmark this info for future reference!
ugh this brings back memories of my own unemployment nightmare last year. took forever to get approved and then they said I was overpaid and wanted money back! the whole system is just broken. hang in there OP
I'm dealing with a similar situation - been waiting 8 weeks for adjudication after being laid off from my job of 5 years. What's frustrating is the lack of transparency about what's actually happening with your claim. They just say "pending" with no timeline or explanation. I've tried calling dozens of times but can never get through. Has anyone had success with contacting their local assembly member or senator's office? I heard they sometimes have staff who can help navigate NYS Department of Labor issues.
Yes, contacting your assembly member or senator's office can actually be really helpful! I did this when I was stuck in limbo for 14 weeks last year. Their constituent services staff know how to escalate cases within NYS Department of Labor and can often get a real person to look at your file. You'll need to provide them with your claim details and they'll reach out on your behalf. It's definitely worth trying since the normal phone lines are basically useless. Just be prepared to wait a few days for them to get back to you, but it's way better than the black hole of regular customer service.
I had the exact same issue with the identity verification! What finally worked for me was using a different device entirely - I was trying on my phone and kept getting errors, but when I switched to my laptop it went through immediately. Also make sure you're using the most recent version of your browser. The NYS DOL system seems really finicky about browser compatibility for identity verification uploads.
I've been dealing with identity verification issues too and found a few things that helped. First, make sure your documents are saved at high resolution - the system sometimes rejects blurry or low-quality images even if they look fine to you. Second, try uploading one document at a time rather than all at once. I kept getting timeouts when trying to upload multiple files together. Also, if you're still getting the "error processing request" message, try logging out completely, clearing your cookies, and logging back in. Sometimes the session gets corrupted and a fresh login fixes the upload issues. Hope this helps!

•I feel you! The paperwork alone is overwhelming. But once you get into a routine with the quarterly calculations it becomes more manageable.

As someone who went through this process recently, I'd recommend getting your NYS Department of Labor employer registration done ASAP if you haven't already. You'll need to register within 20 days of becoming liable for unemployment insurance. For the tax calculations, keep detailed records of your quarterly wages paid - you'll need this for both federal (FUTA at 6% on first $7,000 per employee annually, reduced to 0.6% if you pay state taxes timely) and NYS state unemployment taxes. The NYS Department of Labor will assign you a tax rate based on your industry initially, then adjust it based on your claims experience over time.
