Have you checked if there's maybe an issue with your return? My cousin had this happen and turned out there was a math error. Go to the IRS website and look at your account transcript - it'll show if there's any adjustment or issue flags.
Thank you - someone else suggested checking my transcript too. I'm going to do that right now.
UPDATE: I wanted to thank everyone for their help! I tried the Claimyr service that was recommended here, and it actually worked! I got through to an IRS agent who told me my return was flagged because of a mismatch between what I reported for unemployment and what was on my 1099-G. Once I explained the situation, they were able to process my return. My refund should be deposited within 2 weeks! So relieved!
That's great news! And thanks for coming back to update us - always helpful to know what actually worked. Just for future reference for others with unemployment-related tax issues, always double-check that the amounts on your 1099-G match exactly what you're reporting on your tax return.
my friend had same problem last month and i think you can get older forms but you haveto do it by phone. the website only lets yoy see current year i think. or maybe your account is jyst glitchy, that happens alot with the ny unemployment site lol
Thanks! Yeah the site is super glitchy, keeps timing out on me.
Just wanted to follow up and see if you were able to get your 1099-G forms? Did you try calling again or use any of the suggestions here?
I ended up using that Claimyr service you mentioned and got through to NYSDOL in about 25 minutes! The agent was actually super helpful and is sending both years' 1099-G forms to my email. Should have them by tomorrow. Thanks again for the recommendation - saved me so much frustration!
Great to hear you got it resolved! Just make sure to keep copies of those forms with your tax records. The IRS can audit returns for up to 3 years (sometimes longer), so having documentation of all your unemployment income is important.
this happened to my sister to. she said to make sure you check youre UI payment history and count the weeks careful. sometimes people think they used all 26 weeks but actually havent yet. worth double checking!
Did you manage to get through to NYSDOL yet? I'm curious what they told you about your situation. When I finally got through using Claimyr, they were actually really helpful and explained everything clearly. Let us know what happened!
Yes! I used the Claimyr service you suggested and got through this morning. The agent confirmed I have to wait until my BYE date to file a new claim, but gave me contact info for emergency assistance programs. I've already applied for SNAP and have an appointment with my local DSS office next week. Thank you all for your help!
Unfortunately, you generally need to certify for each week you're claiming benefits, even during an appeal or review process. However, you can request retroactive certification for those weeks when you speak to an agent. Explain that you didn't understand you needed to continue certifying after the initial denial. They can often make exceptions for this, especially in cases where there was confusion about eligibility. Make sure to compile a list of all the weeks you were unemployed and available for work since January. The agent may ask you to verify your availability and job search activities for each of those weeks, so be prepared with that information.
Thank you! I'll put together that information tonight so I'm prepared when I finally get through to someone. Fingers crossed they'll allow the retroactive certification.
I've seen the retroactive certification work out for people in similar situations. Just be honest about why you stopped certifying (the denial letter made you think you weren't eligible) and they're usually understanding. Good luck - please update us when you get it resolved!
I really appreciate all the help everyone. Will definitely post an update once I get through to someone and hopefully get this resolved!

I had to do this back in January and my experience was TERRIBLE. The video verification was scheduled then canceled TWICE without notice. I ended up waiting 23 days - well beyond their "14 day" promise. When I finally got someone on the phone, they claimed my verification had been approved a week earlier but "hadn't been entered into the system correctly." Sure. Magically fixed it while I was on the phone. ALWAYS follow up before their deadline - don't just trust the process!

•That's really concerning... I'll definitely follow up if I don't see any changes by the end of next week. Did you have to call multiple times to finally get someone helpful?

When I did my video verification last year, it actually went pretty fast. Got approved in 4 days. But I think I just got lucky with timing honestly. I remember the agent said something about how they were catching up on a backlog. Anyway, I'd just keep checking the website every morning, that's when they usually update the system. By the way, my brother is applying for benefits now too. Does anyone know if he needs to do the video verification or is it only for certain people?

•The ID verification requirement is triggered by several factors in the system. Most common reasons are: - First-time claimants - Address discrepancies in your application - Name variations in federal records - Suspicious IP access or login patterns - Random selection for enhanced verification It's not required for everyone, but approximately 30-40% of new claimants are currently being selected for this additional verification step.
