The NYS Department of Labor website has a section about work limitations. You definitely need to be honest about your restrictions but as long as you can do SOME type of work, you should be fine. Don't let them scare you into thinking you're not eligible.
The timing really depends on whether your claim goes into adjudication or not. If NYS Department of Labor needs to verify anything about your employment history or reason for separation, it can add several weeks to the process. Most straightforward claims process within 2-3 weeks though.
If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor to check on your claim status, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an actual agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I was stuck waiting for 3 weeks with no updates and got answers within a day of using their service.
ugh the system is SO slow to update after appeals its ridiculous!! took almost 3 weeks for my backpay to show up even though i won my appeal. keep filing weekly claims no matter what the website says
Just wanted to add that if your appeal was for a voluntary quit disqualification, make sure you understand the ongoing work search requirements. Sometimes people think winning the appeal means they're exempt from job searching, but that's not the case. You'll need to document 3 work search activities each week and be able and available for work.

The whole thing is BROKEN! I've been partially unemployed for 6 months, working random gig work to survive, but according to their statistics I'm 'employed' because I worked 3 hours last week. Meanwhile my neighbor gave up looking for work after 8 months of rejections and now he doesn't exist in their numbers either. How can they make policy decisions based on data that's this messed up?

This reminds me of when I was going through my divorce and had to take whatever work I could find. I was doing door dash and uber maybe 15 hours a week total, reporting it on my weekly claims like you're supposed to, but I was definitely still unemployed in any meaningful sense. Couldn't afford my rent, had to move back with my parents. But hey, technically employed according to NYS Department of Labor statistics! The system just wasn't designed for the modern gig economy where people patch together multiple part-time things just to survive.

•Your experience highlights exactly why employment statistics can be misleading. The current measurement framework was designed decades ago for a different job market structure.
