Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. The whole system is rigged honestly. They deny claims hoping people won't appeal. But if you do appeal and have documentation you mentioned, you should be fine. Downsizing is clearly not misconduct - that's just corporate BS they're trying to pull.

Been dealing with NYS Department of Labor for months trying to get my claim processed while watching more automation replace workers everywhere.
That sounds frustrating with your claim processing. Have you tried calling the NYS Department of Labor directly? I know the phone lines are always busy but sometimes you can get through early in the morning.

I think this is just coincidence honestly. My cousin works in labor economics and says the job market has way more factors than just minimum wage. Supply chains, technology changes, consumer spending patterns all matter more. Focus on your unemployment benefits and job search rather than trying to figure out macro economics.

The whole system is so confusing honestly. I filed three weeks ago and I'm still waiting for my first payment because they said my claim is under adjudication whatever that means. The website just says pending with no explanation of how long this takes.
Adjudication means they're reviewing your claim to determine eligibility. This can happen if there's a question about why you lost your job or if you have earnings from multiple employers. It can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on the complexity of your case.
6 weeks?! That's insane, how are people supposed to pay bills while waiting that long?

ugh the NYS Department of Labor makes this so confusing!! why cant they just say if you worked X hours you qualify instead of all this quarterly wage stuff

Just to add - even if you missed filing when you first became unemployed, you might still be able to file a late claim depending on when exactly you were laid off. NYS Department of Labor sometimes allows backdating in certain situations. The worst they can say is no, so it might be worth looking into if you think you qualified.
