DETR account inactive after name change, can't request benefits. Facing eviction. Help!
My unemployment account is showing as inactive and I can't request weekly benefits. I've submitted all the required name change docs and pay stubs but nothing's happening. Now I'm facing eviction and might lose my car. I really need to make sure my claim is being worked on and that they've received everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm seriously worried about becoming homeless if this doesn't get resolved soon.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you're going through this. The system is such a mess rn. Have you tried calling them directly? I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•I've been trying to call for weeks but can never get through. It's so frustrating 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and everything. Sometimes you can get through if youre one of the first callers of the day.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning 🙏

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Mc9FNfOF_yY

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•I was skeptical too, but I can confirm it's real. Used it twice now. Saved me hours of hold time.

•How long did you have to wait after using the service?

•It took about 2 hours both times, but I just went about my day and got a call when an agent was ready. Way better than being stuck on hold myself.

I've been in the same boat, OP. It's a nightmare. Here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, emails, and submitted documents. 2. Reach out to your local state representative. They often have contacts in DETR and can help push things along. 3. If you're facing eviction, look into emergency rental assistance programs in your area. They might be able to help while you're waiting for UI to come through. 4. Check if there are any legal aid organizations in your area that specialize in UI issues. They might be able to advocate for you. 5. Keep requesting your weekly benefits even if it says your account is inactive. This creates a paper trail. Hang in there. I know it's tough, but keep pushing. 💪

•This is gold. Wish I had known all this when I was struggling with my claim last year.

This is why we need to overhaul the entire UI system. It's a joke that people are facing homelessness because of bureaucratic bs. Vote for politicians who actually care about fixing this mess!

•Preach! 🙌 The system is so outdated, it's criminal.

•Yeah but good luck getting anyone to actually do anything about it. They all talk a big game during elections and then nothing changes.

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're checking your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important DETR emails end up there. Learned that one the hard way 😅

•Oh man, I didn't even think of that. Checking now, thanks!

idk if this helps, but I had a similar issue with my account showing inactive. Turns out there was a glitch in their system affecting accounts with recent name changes. I had to call (took forever) and they had to manually update something on their end. Might be worth mentioning when you get through.

•That actually sounds exactly like what might be happening with mine. Thanks for the info, I'll definitely bring this up when I call!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this stress, especially with eviction looming. I went through something similar last year and it's absolutely terrifying. A few things that helped me: 1. Contact Nevada 211 (dial 2-1-1) - they have info on emergency rental assistance and food banks that can help bridge the gap 2. Look into the Nevada Rent Relief Program if you haven't already - they sometimes process faster than DETR 3. When you do get through to DETR, ask specifically about "name change account sync issues" - there's apparently a known bug affecting people who've changed their names Also, don't give up on the weekly certifications even if it feels pointless. Once they fix your account, you'll get backpay for all the weeks you certified for. Sending you strength - you're going to get through this! 💙

•This is such helpful advice, thank you! I had no idea about Nevada 211 or the specific name change bug. Going to call 211 today and definitely mention that bug when I finally get through to DETR. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one who's been through this nightmare. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these resources 🙏

I'm dealing with something similar right now and it's absolutely maddening. The stress of not knowing when (or if) your benefits will come through while bills pile up is overwhelming. One thing that's helped me stay somewhat sane is creating a daily action plan - even if it's just "call DETR at 8am, check spam folder, research one new resource." It gives me a sense of control when everything feels so helpless. Also, if you have any friends or family who can help with groceries or small expenses while you're waiting, don't be too proud to ask. This system failing you isn't your fault, and accepting help isn't giving up - it's surviving until things get sorted out. Rooting for you! 🤞

•Thank you so much for this perspective and the practical advice about making a daily action plan. You're absolutely right that having some structure helps when everything feels out of control. I've been so focused on the big picture stress that I hadn't thought about breaking it down into manageable daily actions. And you're right about asking for help - I've been hesitant because I feel like this should be "temporary" but it's been going on for weeks now. Really appreciate the reminder that this isn't my fault and that surviving the system's failures is what matters right now. Hope your situation gets resolved soon too! 💙
