DETR Nevada: Tips for reaching an agent to file unemployment appeal?
Hey everyone, I'm at my wits end here. I've been trying to get through to unemployment for days now about an appeal I need to file. Every time I call, I either get dropped or can't even get to an agent. It's so frustrating! Has anyone else been dealing with this? Any tips on how to actually get someone on the line?

Has anyone tried the online appeal process? Is it any better than calling?

I tried, but kept getting error messages. The website is almost as bad as the phone system ๐ฉ

It worked for me! Took forever to get a response, but at least I didn't have to deal with the phone nightmare

The online system does have its glitches, but it's worth trying as a parallel effort to calling.

Unpopular opinion: maybe if we all stopped calling constantly, the lines wouldn't be so jammed and it'd be easier to get through ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Yeah, because not calling at all will definitely solve our problems ๐

Itโs a catch-22. We need help, but calling is the only immediate way to maybe get assistance.

have you tried faxing your appeal? sometimes the old school methods work better lol

Connor Rupert
Wait, is that actually an option? Where would I even find a fax machine in 2023? ๐

There are online fax services you can use. Might be worth a shot!

Surprisingly, some government offices still prefer faxed documents. It's worth trying if all else fails.

Ugh, the EDD system is such a joke. I swear they make it difficult on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. It's a disgrace ๐ค

Here's what I've learned after months of dealing with EDD: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if it feels hopeless. 2. Try different times of day. Early morning and late afternoon seem to work best. 3. Be prepared when you call. Have all your info ready. 4. Be polite to the agent when you finally get through. They're dealing with angry people all day. 5. If you're not getting anywhere, ask to speak to a tier 2 specialist. 6. Document everything. Write down who you talked to and what they said. 7. If all else fails, contact your local representative or the EDD ombudsman. Hope this helps someone out there. We're all in this together!

This list is gold. I'd also add that it helps to stay calm and collected, as hard as it can be.

I feel ya, OP. I've been stuck in EDD limbo for 3 months now. It's like screaming into the void ๐ซ

Anyone else feel like they're in an abusive relationship with EDD? They ignore us, gaslight us, and we keep coming back hoping things will change ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ

Serious question: has anyone considered a class action lawsuit against EDD for their terrible service? This can't be legal, right?

I've actually been wondering the same thing. It's worth looking into.

Good luck suing a government agency. We'd all be dead before that case got resolved ๐

I read about some attempts in the past, but these cases are notoriously hard to win.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblyperson's office? Sometimes they can help push things through faster.

Connor Rupert
I hadn't thought of that. How do I find out who my assemblyperson is?

Just google "[your city] assemblyperson" and it should come up. Good luck!

They can definitely help by putting pressure on the system, and some offices even have liaison programs dedicated to this.

Welcome to the club, buddy. I've been playing phone tag with them for weeks now. It's like trying to win the lottery, except the prize is just talking to a human being ๐

I feel your pain. Have you tried calling right when they open? I've had some luck getting through that way, but it's still hit or miss.

Connor Rupert
Yeah, I've tried that. Even set an alarm for 5 minutes before they open. Still no luck. It's like everyone else had the same idea lol

Pro tip: Try calling on Wednesdays. For some reason, it seems less busy then. Worked for me last month!

Another option might be to call just before they close. If you get through, the agents might be less rushed because there are fewer calls stacking up at the end of the day.

Guys, I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/joPqgg0bRFw

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken ๐ก

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I was desperate enough to try anything. Worth every penny imo

While Claimyr can be effective, it does highlight the systemic issues with the EDD that a paid service is even a consideration.

Plot twist: there are no actual EDD agents. It's just a room full of parrots trained to say "Please hold" on repeat ๐ฆ
