Will my $17k IRS tax debt affect being added to sibling's house deed? On payment plan
I have a $17k tax debt with the IRS and am currently on a payment plan. My sibling wants to add my name to their house deed/title (not the mortgage). Could this cause problems with the IRS or affect the property? Looking for advice before making this decision.

Tax professional here - This could be risky. The IRS can place a federal tax lien on any property you own or co-own, even if you're on a payment plan. This could complicate things if your sibling ever wants to sell or refinance. I'd strongly recommend clearing the tax debt first.

Yikes, I had no idea they could do that even with a payment plan. thx for the heads up!

Have you tried using taxr.ai? It's a transcript analyzer that could help you understand your tax situation better. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it - shows you exactly where you stand with the IRS and potential consequences of property ownership while having tax debt. I use it regularly to track my payment plan progress.

Why does your sibling want to add you to the deed? Make sure theres no funny business going on that could make your tax situation worse

Maybe talk to a tax attorney? This seems like something that could get messy real quick
