IRS Transcript Shows $15,621 Refund Pending - "As Of" Date Keeps Changing Between March 4 and April 15 with Codes 570/971
My transcript has an as of date that keeps changing back and forth from March 4 to April 15. Does this mean anything? I filed early January and still waiting for my refund. Getting worried because I really need this money and cant get through to anyone at the IRS. I've been checking my transcript daily and noticed something weird. The "AS OF" date keeps flipping between March 4 and April 15, even though today is May 15. Here's what my transcript shows: Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec 2022 ACCOUNT BALANCE: -$15,621.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: May 21, 2023 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: May 21, 2023 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): -$15,621.00 INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED EXEMPTIONS: 05 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: $42,142.00 TAXABLE INCOME: $22,742.00 TAX PER RETURN: $125.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: 0.00 SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: 0.00 TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: 0.00 RETURN DUE DATE OR RETURN RECEIVED DATE (WHICHEVER IS LATER) Apr. 15, 2023 PROCESSING DATE Mar. 20, 2023 TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT 150 Tax return filed 20230905 03-20-2023 $125.00 30211-452-21254-3 806 W-2 or 1099 withholding 04-15-2023 -$5,808.00 766 Credit to your account 04-15-2023 -$1,900.00 766 Credit to your account 04-15-2023 -$6,909.00 766 Credit to your account 04-15-2023 -$937.00 768 Earned income credit 04-16-2023 -$2,092.00 570 Additional account action pending 03-20-2023 $0.00 971 Notice issued 03-27-2023 $0.00 I see the codes 570 (Additional account action pending) and 971 (Notice issued), but I haven't received any notices. My refund should be $15,621.00 but nothing has been deposited yet. It's been months since I filed in January and the transcript shows a processing date of March 20. I really need this money badly and I've been trying to call the IRS but can't get through to a human. Does the changing "as of" date mean they're actively working on my return? Or is there something wrong? I'm especially confused about the "Additional account action pending" code. Does anyone know what's going on or how much longer I might have to wait?

Hey there! I can help explain what transcript date changes mean. The 'As Of' date on your transcript is basically when the IRS updates your account info. When this date changes, it usually means the IRS is actively working on your return or making adjustments. But here's the thing - just because the date changes doesn't automatically mean you're getting your refund soon. I've seen plenty of cases where the date keeps moving without any real progress. If you want a really detailed breakdown of your transcript and what these dates actually mean for YOUR specific situation, check out taxr.ai - it's pretty amazing at explaining all the technical stuff in plain English. I've been recommending it to everyone here because it saved me hours of trying to decode my own transcript.

The 'as of' date changes dont mean anything significant most of the time. Its just their system updating. Unless you see actual changes to account balances or new transaction codes, the date changes are usually just routine system updates.

I found this tool called taxr.ai that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and when to expect your refund. Cost me $5 but totally worth it to stop guessing. https://taxr.ai

Tax expert here. As of dates are automated system updates and dont indicate processing status. What you want to look for are transaction codes like 570, 971, or 846. Those actually tell you whats happening with your return and if theres any issues that need addressing.
