WMR Stuck on 'Still Being Processed' Since March 15th - Head of Household Filing

I e-filed on March 15th, 2024 and I'm still getting the 'Your tax return is still being processed' message when I check WMR. It's been exactly 31 days now. I filed as Head of Household (first time since graduating) and was expecting a decent refund to help with moving expenses. The weird part is that when I check WMR, it shows my filing status correctly as Head of Household, but the expected refund amount field is completely blank. Has anyone else encountered this? I've tried checking both the website and the IRS2Go app daily since April 1st, but I get the same message. Any insights on what might be causing this or what I should do next? I double-checked everything before submitting and don't think there were any errors.

Oh my gosh, I'm literally going through the EXACT same thing right now! Filed March 10th and STILL waiting with that stupid message. I'm about to lose my mind because I need that money for my kid's summer camp deposit by May 1st! 😫 In my experience from last year, a blank refund field usually means they're recalculating something. Have you checked your transcript? That sometimes updates before WMR does. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

Quick question about the transcript approach: • Do you need to create an account first? • Is it the Account Transcript or Return Transcript that shows processing status? • How often does the transcript update compared to WMR?

I just checked my transcript after reading this and found it super helpful! It showed a 570 code dated April 12th and a 971 code dated April 22nd. The numbers were exactly what I needed - my refund amount is $3,428 and it looks like it'll be deposited on April 26th. Such a relief after 29 days of waiting!

I'm not entirely convinced the transcript is always more helpful, to be honest. Last year mine showed all kinds of codes but I still had to wait an additional 3 weeks beyond what people were suggesting. It might give some information, but I think it sometimes just adds to the anxiety of waiting, especially if you're kind of tight on money like many of us are right now.

Anyone else feel like the IRS deliberately makes this process as confusing as possible? 😂 I've been stuck on that same message since February 28th and I'm slightly freaking out. Do you have any credits like EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those can trigger extra review time. Also, did you get an acceptance confirmation after filing? Sometimes there's a difference between "accepted" and "processing" that matters.

I've seen this happen in several scenarios. When I filed Head of Household last year, I had the blank refund amount for about 3 weeks. Then it suddenly populated with my correct amount, and I received my refund 8 days later. In another case, my brother had this happen when he claimed education credits. The blank field is often just a display issue while they verify your filing status or credits, not necessarily an indication something is wrong with your return.

I'm really impressed with how much everyone knows about these systems! It's like learning to read hieroglyphics. The blank refund field is like when my email client shows a message was delivered but not yet read - the system knows it's there but hasn't fully processed the contents yet.

When you mentioned the acceptance confirmation, I got concerned. Is there a difference between the acknowledgment email from the tax software and the IRS acceptance? My TurboTax said "IRS accepted" on March 16th, but should I have received something directly from the IRS as well?

I've been through this exact situation before. Here's what you need to do: Step 1: Check your tax transcript instead of WMR. Go to irs.gov, create an account if you don't have one, and request your 2023 Account Transcript. Step 2: Look for transaction codes. Code 150 means your return was processed. Codes 570/971 indicate a hold or notice being sent. Step 3: If you see code 846, that's your refund date. Step 4: If it's been more than 21 days and you don't see any movement, that's when you should consider calling. The blank refund amount typically happens when they're verifying your Head of Household status or recalculating credits. I had this happen on March 3rd last year and it resolved by March 29th.

Wait, do u need to have a credit card or loan to access the transcript online? I tried making an acct last yr and got rejected bc I don't have any of those things. Is there another way to get it? WMR is useless rn 🙄

I went through a similar verification process for my transcript last tax season. If you can't verify online, you can use Form 4506-T to request it by mail. I did this on February 10th and received my transcript by February 28th. The IRS website also has specific requirements for online verification including a financial account, mobile phone in your name, and email address. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

I was in exactly the same situation last year when I filed on February 22nd, 2023. The blank refund field drove me crazy because I needed that money for a security deposit due on April 1st. After trying the regular IRS number for THREE days (calling at exactly 7:00am on March 15th, 16th, and 17th), I finally used Claimyr to get through. Got connected to an agent in 22 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent confirmed my return was flagged for a simple Head of Household verification and gave me a timeframe. Worth every penny since I was able to make arrangements with my landlord based on actual information. https://claimyr.com

I've never heard of this service before. Does it really work? I've tried calling the IRS three times this week but couldn't get through. How much does it cost?

Actually, I just looked it up. Has anyone else used this service successfully? I'm getting desperate since I need to know about my refund timeline for my apartment lease renewal.

I'm going to try calling one more time tomorrow morning when they open, but if that doesn't work, I might try this. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm somewhat skeptical about using third-party services to contact the IRS. According to Internal Revenue Manual section 21.1.3.3, taxpayers can request to speak with a supervisor if their issue isn't being resolved. The blank refund field is actually documented in IRM 21.4.1.3(7) as a normal occurrence during certain verification processes. Per the Taxpayer First Act of 2019, you're entitled to an explanation of any delay beyond 21 days. I'd recommend persistence with the official channels before spending money on services that essentially just automate the dialing process.

Those official channels aren't working. I tried for days. Couldn't get through. Claimyr worked for me. Got an agent in 18 minutes. Solved my issue immediately. Worth it. Not everyone has hours to waste on hold. Some of us need answers quickly. It's just a dialing service. They don't access your tax info. Just connects you faster.

That's good to know. I've spent about 2 hours on hold so far this week without getting through. If I can't reach them by Friday, I'll probably try this route. Did they explain what the blank refund amount meant in your case?

One more question - when the agent helped you, were they able to give you a specific timeframe for when your refund would be processed? I'm trying to decide if it's worth calling or just continuing to wait.

Have you tried checking your tax transcript instead? I was in a similar situation last month and discovered my transcript had updated even though WMR hadn't changed. I logged into the IRS website on March 28th, downloaded my account transcript, and found out they had adjusted my refund amount slightly and were processing it. Three days later, the money appeared in my account! The transcript showed codes that explained exactly what was happening, while WMR was still stuck on that generic message.

The blank refund field combined with the Head of Household status often indicates they're verifying your eligibility for that filing status. I went through this last year when I filed on April 2nd. It's a very common verification process, especially if this is your first time using that filing status. The good news is that once they complete verification, things move quickly. In my case, it took exactly 35 days from filing to refund, and the WMR tool updated only 48 hours before the deposit hit my account.
