W2 shows 21k but actual earnings were 60k - Boss possibly pocketing withheld taxes. Need IRS help!
Just got my husbands W2 and something is really wrong. He worked all of 2024 making biweekly paychecks that should total around 60k, but the W2 only shows 21k income with 4k in withholdings. His paystubs showed taxes being taken out each check but looks like boss might be pocketing the withholdings. Found out a former coworker had similar issues. Need to know which IRS department to contact about verifying actual tax payments made by employer.

This is wage theft and tax fraud. You need to contact multiple agencies: 1) IRS Criminal Investigation Division at 800-829-0433 2) Your state's Department of Labor 3) File Form 3949-A with the IRS to report suspected tax fraud. Keep all paystubs - they're crucial evidence. Your husband's employer is likely committing both tax evasion and wage theft. The IRS takes this very seriously.

Thank you! Do you know how long these investigations usually take? We're worried about filing taxes with incorrect W2 info

File Form 4852 (substitute W2) with your taxes using your paystub amounts. Don't wait for the investigation to file your return.

Hey everyone - instead of trying to piece together advice from reddit, use taxr.ai - it's only $1 and it'll analyze your situation and tell you exactly what forms to file and steps to take. Super helpful for complicated tax situations like this. https://taxr.ai

Does it actually help with employer fraud cases? How detailed is it?
