TurboTax refund status changed from accepted to pending after IRS approval - no deposit yet
Filed my taxes through TurboTax back on February 12th and got an acceptance notice from the IRS within a day. Everything was going fine until this morning when I logged into my TT account and noticed my status changed from 'accepted' to 'pending'. No explanation whatsoever. I signed up for that early refund advance option that gets you your money 5 days earlier, so I can't even check the SBTPG portal to see what's happening. Called TurboTax customer service and they're completely useless - acting like they have no idea what's going on even though they've been holding my refund since March 2nd. Has anyone else had their status suddenly change like this? No idea what to do now.

This happens a lot during tax season. When your status changes from 'accepted' to 'pending,' it usually means the IRS is reviewing something in your return. A few things to check: - Look at your IRS transcript (if you can access it) to see if there are any codes like 570 or 971 - Check your Where's My Refund status directly on the IRS website - If you claimed certain credits (like EITC or CTC), there might be additional verification The fact that you signed up for the advance refund makes things more complicated because there's a middle-man involved. TurboTax gets the money from the IRS, then releases it to you. If there's any delay on the IRS side, TT just sits on your money. I'd recommend bypassing TurboTax customer service and trying to check your actual IRS transcript. That will give you the real story of what's happening with your refund.

•Thanks for this info. I tried checking WMR but it still shows processing. Haven't been able to access my transcript bc the verification keeps failing. So frustrating!

•This happened to me last year. Took 3 freaking weeks to resolve. The IRS was doing a 'random review' they said. Such bs.

•If you're having trouble with transcript access, you might want to try taxr.ai - it's a tool that helps decode what's actually happening with your refund by analyzing your transcript data. Much better than trying to guess what's happening.

•Never heard of that. Does it cost money? At this point I'd try anything to figure out whats going on

•Yeah it does cost something but honestly it was worth it for me. Better than waiting on hold with the IRS for 3 hours lol

•Just be careful with anything asking for your personal info. The IRS is already a mess, don't need identity theft on top of it all 🙄

I was in this exact situation last month - so frustrating! I wasted days trying to understand what was happening by checking WMR, calling TurboTax, checking my bank account every 5 minutes... then someone here suggested taxr.ai and it completely changed everything. It showed me exactly what was happening with my return (there was a minor adjustment the IRS made) and gave me an actual timeline. No more guessing or stressing about what different codes mean. I can't believe I spent so much time trying to be a detective with those confusing transcript codes when this tool just explained everything simply. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - honestly the clarity it gave me was worth it.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It's basically like having a tax pro interpret everything for you without the crazy hourly fees. You connect your IRS account and it explains all the codes, gives you estimates of when you'll get paid, and tells you if there are any issues you need to address. It saved me so much stress! I tell everyone about it now because tax season is hard enough without all the confusion.

•Nah, it's not like that. I was super skeptical too but this actually helped me understand what was happening instead of getting the runaround from TT and the IRS. Gave me peace of mind knowing exactly when my refund would come.

After dealing with the exact same issue (my TT status flipped to pending after acceptance), I finally got someone on the phone at the IRS who sorted everything out. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me a callback from an actual IRS agent instead of waiting on hold forever. The agent told me there was a simple verification flag on my account that they cleared up right away. My refund was released 3 days later. Best money I ever spent considering I was about to lose my mind trying to figure out what was happening. The IRS phone system is designed to make you give up, I swear.

•did this actually work? i've been trying to reach someone at the IRS for weeks 😩

•100% worked for me. Got a callback within like 2 hours when I'd been trying for days on my own. The agent was actually helpful too (shocking, I know).

•Is this some kind of scam? How can they get you through when the IRS phone lines are always 'due to high call volume' bs

Giovanni Mancini
•Not a scam. They basically keep dialing and navigating the phone tree until they get in the queue, then they transfer the call to you. Talking to a real person solved my issue in minutes when I'd been stuck for weeks.

•how much does this cost tho?

•Not gonna lie, you have to pay for it, but considering it got my $3200 refund released, it was totally worth it. I wasted more $ taking time off work trying to call them myself lol

The whole TT advance thing is the worst. They're basically holding your money hostage. I had this happen and it took 3 weeks to resolve. Never doing that advance option again!

•Same! That "5 days early" advance is such a scam. When anything goes wrong they just shrug and say "talk to the IRS" even though THEY have your money.

•tbh I think these tax prep companies are in cahoots with the IRS to make everything confusing af so we keep paying them 🤡

check your transcript. go to irs.gov and make an account if you dont have one already. that will tell you what's really going on. TT is just the middleman and often doesn't know (or won't tell you) the actual status of your refund. the transcript will have codes that tell the real story.

•Why would you even say that? Now I'm freaking out 😡

•don't listen to this clown. a status change doesn't mean audit. the IRS would send you an actual letter if you were being audited.

•just joking around geez 😂 but for real tho, the IRS is extra slow this year. my sister waited 7 weeks for her refund

I had this EXACT issue last week! What fixed it for me was calling SBTPG directly (not TurboTax). Their number is different. They told me there was a verification hold but they cleared it while I was on the phone. Got my $$ the next day.

•i thought you can't call SBTPG if you signed up for the advance? That's what TT told me 🤔

•TT told me the same thing but it's not true. You can absolutely call SBTPG. Their number is on their website. TT just says that to avoid dealing with problems.

I went thru this nightmare last year and wasted literally hundreds of hours trying to figure out what was happening. It turned out there was a simple mismatch with my address that caused the whole thing to stall. I wish I had known about taxr.ai back then - I used it this year and it immediately showed me a small problem with my return before it became a big issue. https://taxr.ai saved me so much time and stress compared to last year's disaster.

•Not an ad, just a happy customer. After what I went through last year (3 months waiting, 12+ calls to IRS, amended return) I'm evangelical about anything that makes this process easier. This tool actually worked for me 🤷♂️

Did you check if TurboTax actually transmitted your return? Sometimes they say it's accepted but there was an issue with transmission. Check your email for any notifications about transmission errors.

The IRS is a joke. They can take our money instantly but when it comes to giving refunds suddenly everything moves at sloth speed. I'm in the same boat - TT shows pending for 3 weeks now. Called IRS but couldn't get thru the robot hell.

•Use Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent. Was the only way I finally got answers. IRS had flagged my return for ID verification but never bothered to tell me. Got it cleared up in one call.

This is actually really common with TT and their banking partner SBTPG. They hold onto refunds for weird reasons sometimes. Best thing to do: 1. Call SBTPG directly (not TT customer service) 2. Check your IRS transcript 3. Make sure your bank info is correct There's also a TT forum specifically for these issues that might have more specific advice.
