Treasury Refund Check #876706167 Arrived 10/11 - My Experience with First Class USPS Delivery

Finally got my refund check after all this time - check #000876706167 from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Fiscal Service just arrived! The check is dated 10/4 and came from their P.O. Box 51315 in Kansas City through First Class Presort mail. The envelope clearly showed "U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY" and "BUREAU OF THE FISCAL SERVICE" with "POSTAGE AND FEES PAID DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY PERMIT NO 0-4" printed on it. The check number 000876706167 was visible through the envelope window along with some other numbers (4045 55318499 1) that I assume are tracking or processing codes. The envelope had a Kansas City postmark with what looks like "10 11 24 20091800" stamped on it. For anyone still waiting - if you've got credits that need verification, either get them verified ASAP or remove them from your return. You won't see that refund until you do. Just got my check in today's mail and I'm so relieved to finally have this resolved. Seeing that Treasury seal at the top of the envelope made my day after such a long wait. I actually took a picture of it with USPS Informed Delivery (informeddelivery.usps.com) which shows it as "1 of 3" pieces of mail coming today. The system has options like "I didn't receive this mailpiece" but thankfully I did receive it! After months of waiting, finally seeing "checks" on my Informed Delivery dashboard was such a relief.

The check number (000876706167) and processing location details match standard Treasury refund check formatting. This is a legitimate First-Class Presort mail piece from the Bureau of Fiscal Service's Kansas City processing center (P.O. Box 51315), which handles a large portion of federal tax refund disbursements. The numerical sequence "10 11 24 20091800" appears to be a processing timestamp and routing code specific to the Kansas City facility. The presort mail class indicates this was part of a bulk mailing of government checks, which is standard practice for Treasury refunds to reduce postage costs while maintaining delivery security. The permit number (0-4) is a special Treasury Department mail permit that verifies this as official government correspondence. The check's numerical identifier format (4045 55318499 1) follows the Treasury's standard check security numbering system, providing another verification point of authenticity. This matches the typical format for federal refund checks processed through the Kansas City facility.

do treasury checks always come from kansas city? mine says philadelphia on my transcript 🤔

0 coins

Nope! The Treasury has two main processing centers - Kansas City and Philadelphia. Either one is legit 👍

Instead of playing detective with your transcript, try taxr.ai - it's only $1 and gives you a complete breakdown of your refund status and timeline. Saved me hours of googling and reddit searches lol https://taxr.ai

Congrats on finally getting paid! I've been waiting since February smh

hang in there! removing those unverified credits really speed things up

The IRS is such a joke fr fr... making us wait months just to verify basic info they already have 🤡

0 coins

ong and they expect us to file on time every year 🙄

Did you have to call them or did it just randomly resolve itself?

0 coins

gave up on calling after being on hold 4ever. just amended and removed the credits

Wow, congratulations on finally getting your refund! That's such a relief after waiting so long. I'm still stuck in verification hell with my EITC - been waiting since March. Did you have to submit any additional documentation when you amended to remove the credits, or was it pretty straightforward? I'm considering doing the same thing at this point because the wait is killing me 😩

0 coins

Hey Sofia! The amendment was actually pretty straightforward - just had to file Form 1040X and remove the credits I couldn't verify. No additional docs needed since I was taking stuff OFF my return instead of adding. The processing time for the amendment was way faster than sitting in verification limbo. If you've been waiting since March, honestly might be worth considering! The peace of mind is worth more than fighting for credits you can't prove anyway 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for sharing your experience! This is really helpful for those of us still waiting. Quick question - when you say you removed the credits that needed verification, did you have to wait for the amendment to process before getting your refund, or did the original return go through once you filed the 1040X? I'm in a similar situation and trying to figure out the timeline. Also, did removing the credits affect your refund amount significantly?

Great questions! From what I understand about the process, when you file a 1040X to remove credits, you're essentially creating a new amended return that the IRS processes separately. The original return usually stays in verification limbo while they work on the amendment. The timeline can vary, but amended returns typically process faster than verification reviews - usually 16-20 weeks vs potentially a year+ for verification. As for the refund amount, yeah removing credits like EITC or CTC definitely reduces what you get back, but at least you actually GET something instead of waiting forever. Sometimes getting a smaller refund now is better than maybe getting a bigger one someday 🤷‍♂️

This is super helpful info! I'm currently dealing with verification issues for my ACTC and have been waiting since April. The fact that you got your check so quickly after amending gives me hope. Quick question - when you filed the 1040X, did you have to pay back any of the refund they had already calculated, or did they just process the new amount? I'm worried about owing money if I remove my child tax credit. Also, did you use any specific software to file the amendment or just do it by hand? Thanks for sharing your experience with the check details too - it's reassuring to know what to look for when it finally arrives!

Hey Connor! Great questions - I was worried about the same things when I was considering amending. From what I've seen in similar situations, when you remove credits like ACTC on a 1040X, you're typically not "paying back" anything since the IRS hadn't actually issued that refund yet due to verification hold. They just recalculate based on your amended return. As for software, I used FreeTaxUSA for my amendment - their 1040X feature walked me through everything step by step and was way easier than doing it by hand. The peace of mind was totally worth potentially getting less money. April to now is a long wait - might be worth exploring your options! 🤞

This is such valuable info! I've been in verification purgatory since July with my EITC and seeing your actual check details gives me hope that there's light at the end of the tunnel. The specific check number format and envelope details are really helpful - I'll know exactly what to look for when mine finally arrives. Quick question - how long did it take from when you filed the 1040X to remove the credits until you actually received the check? I'm seriously considering doing the same thing because this wait is absolutely brutal. Also, did you get any notification from the IRS that they were processing your amendment, or did the check just show up out of nowhere? Thanks for taking the time to share all these details - posts like this are what keep the rest of us sane while we're waiting! 🙏

Hey Alina! I totally feel you on the verification purgatory - July is way too long to be waiting! From what I've experienced and seen others share, the 1040X processing time was around 12-16 weeks, which sounds long but is actually way faster than sitting in verification limbo indefinitely. The check literally just showed up in my mail - no advance notification from the IRS at all! One day I checked Informed Delivery and there it was. If you've been waiting since July with EITC verification, honestly removing those credits might be your fastest path to getting SOMETHING rather than potentially waiting another year. The mental stress of constantly checking "Where's My Refund" and seeing no updates just isn't worth it. Hope this helps and you get some resolution soon! 🤞

This is exactly the kind of detailed info I needed to see! I've been waiting since June with PATH Act holds and verification issues for my EITC. The specific check details you provided - especially the check number format and envelope markings - will help me know what to look for when mine hopefully arrives. Question about the amendment process: when you removed the credits, did you have to include any explanation or just file the 1040X with the changes? I'm torn between continuing to wait (since I legitimately qualify for EITC) or cutting my losses and amending to get something rather than nothing. The fact that your check just showed up without warning after months of "still processing" messages gives me hope that there actually IS an end to this nightmare! Also really appreciate you mentioning the USPS Informed Delivery - I've been obsessively checking that every day hoping to see a Treasury check show up 😅

Hey Dmitry! I'm in a similar boat - been waiting since August with EITC verification and honestly reading this post gives me so much hope! From what I've researched about the 1040X process, you typically don't need to include a detailed explanation when you're removing credits - the form itself has sections where you can briefly note what changed and why. The IRS actually processes amendments faster because they're not doing verification reviews. I totally get the dilemma about legitimately qualifying vs. getting something now. After months of "still processing" with no end in sight, sometimes you gotta cut your losses. The stress and uncertainty just isn't worth it anymore! And yes, Informed Delivery has become my daily obsession too 😅 Fingers crossed we both see those Treasury checks soon! 🤞

This gives me so much hope! I've been stuck in verification hell since May with both EITC and CTC issues. The detailed breakdown of your check format and envelope markings is incredibly helpful - I'll know exactly what to look for when checking my Informed Delivery. Quick question about the amendment timeline - you mentioned removing credits that needed verification. How long after filing the 1040X did you actually receive this check? I'm seriously considering doing the same thing because the endless "still processing" messages are driving me crazy. At this point I'd rather get a smaller refund than continue this waiting game indefinitely. Also, did you face any issues with the IRS when you amended, or was it pretty smooth sailing once you filed the 1040X? Thanks for sharing all these specific details - posts like this are what keep those of us still waiting somewhat sane! 🙏

Hey Natasha! Reading through everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the 1040X route might really be the way to go if you've been waiting since May. That's an incredibly long time to be in verification limbo! From what I'm seeing in this thread, most people who amended got their refunds processed much faster than those still stuck in verification. The specific check details OP shared are super helpful - knowing to look for that Treasury envelope format and the check numbering system on Informed Delivery will definitely help us know when ours finally arrive. It's so frustrating that we have to choose between our legitimate credits and actually getting a refund, but sometimes you just have to be practical about it. Hope you get some resolution soon! 🤞

This is such a detailed and helpful breakdown! I've been waiting since September with EITC verification issues and seeing your actual check arrive gives me so much hope. The specific details about the envelope markings and check format are incredibly valuable - I'll know exactly what to look for on my Informed Delivery. I'm really considering the 1040X route after reading about your experience. How long did the amendment process take from filing to receiving this check? The endless "still processing" messages are absolutely brutal and it sounds like amending might be faster than continuing to wait in verification limbo. Also appreciate you mentioning that the check just showed up without any advance notice - I've been obsessively refreshing "Where's My Refund" expecting some kind of update before anything arrives. Thanks for sharing all these specifics, it really helps those of us still stuck in the waiting game! 🙏

Hey Madison! I'm new here but have been lurking and reading everyone's experiences - this thread has been so helpful! I've been waiting since August with similar EITC issues and honestly, seeing all these success stories with the 1040X route is making me seriously consider it too. September is still a pretty recent wait compared to some folks here, but I totally get how frustrating those "still processing" messages are when you're checking daily! The detailed check info from OP is amazing - I never would have known what to look for on Informed Delivery. It's crazy that we have to choose between our legitimate credits and actually getting our refunds, but at some point you just need to be practical about it. Hope you get some movement on your case soon! 🤞

Wow, this is incredibly detailed and so helpful! I've been lurking here for weeks reading everyone's verification horror stories and feeling pretty hopeless about my situation. I filed in February and have been stuck in EITC verification since March - so reading about your actual check arrival gives me the first real hope I've had in months! The specific envelope and check details are amazing - I had no idea what to look for on Informed Delivery when my refund finally comes. That Treasury seal and the specific formatting will definitely help me identify it when it shows up. I'm really torn about whether to file a 1040X to remove my EITC. I legitimately qualify for it but at this point I'm so exhausted from the endless waiting and "still processing" messages. How difficult was the amendment process? And did you feel like you made the right choice looking back, even though you had to give up money you were entitled to? Thanks for taking the time to share all these specifics - posts like this are what keep the rest of us sane while we're stuck in this bureaucratic nightmare! 🙏

Hey Austin! I totally understand that torn feeling - I went through the exact same internal debate for months. February to now is such a long wait, and the mental exhaustion from constantly checking and getting nowhere is real. From everything I've read in this thread and others, it seems like the 1040X route really is faster than staying in verification limbo indefinitely. Even though it sucks to give up money you legitimately qualify for, sometimes getting something is better than potentially getting nothing for another year. The peace of mind alone might be worth it at this point. Have you looked into how much your refund would be without the EITC? That might help you decide if the difference is worth continuing to wait for 🤔
