IRS Mail Alert: Just Got USPS Informed Delivery Notification After Waiting Since February - Anyone Else?

Finally got movement on my refund! Just received a USPS informed delivery notification showing mail coming from the IRS. Been waiting since February and this is the first update I've seen. I just checked my Informed Delivery app today (Thursday, Dec 7) at around 4:24 PM and saw that I have mail and packages arriving soon - specifically "1 Mailpieces" and "1 Packages" according to the app. The most exciting part is that there's an item from "INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE" with status "Pre-Shipment USPS Awaiting Item" as of Dec 07 at around 3:24 PM CST. This is the first movement I've seen on my USPS Informed Delivery since I filed back in February. The notification just shows "Pre-Shipment" status, so I'm guessing they've created the shipping label but haven't dropped it off yet. Anyone else get something in the mail recently from the IRS? I'm trying not to get too excited but it's hard not to hope this is my refund and not just another delay letter. After waiting for over 10 months, I'm really anxious to see what this is! I checked all my other USPS features (Quick Tools, Send, Receive, Shop, Business, International, Help sections) but there's no additional info beyond what's in the Informed Delivery section. The app just says "Delivery Date Unknown" which is making the wait even harder!

Tax pro here. If you're getting mail from the IRS, it could be a few things: verification request, math error notice, or possibly your refund check if you didn't do direct deposit. Don't panic - most notices are easily resolvable. Keep us posted on what you receive!

Hey everyone - if youre tired of playing the guessing game with these notices, check out taxr.ai. It costs $4.99 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on and what to expect next. Way better than trying to piece everything together yourself. https://taxr.ai

Does it actually work? Seems too good to be true tbh

Check ur WMR before getting too excited. Sometimes they send random notices that have nothing to do with ur refund status js

lmaooo watch it be another 'we need more time' letter 💀

@Isabella Martin fingers crossed for you! 🤞 I m'in the same boat - filed in March and still waiting. At least you re'getting some kind of movement after all this time. Hopefully it s'good news and not just another delay!

Been there! Got my USPS notification last month after waiting since March. Turned out to be my actual refund check finally! The "Pre-Shipment" status usually means they printed the label but haven't handed it to USPS yet - should move to "In Transit" within 24-48 hours. Really hoping this is your refund and not another notice. Keep checking that tracking - once it hits "Out for Delivery" you'll know for sure it's the real deal! 🤞

@Edward McBride That s'so encouraging to hear! 🙏 Really hoping mine follows the same pattern as yours. I ve'been checking the USPS app obsessively since I got the notification yesterday. Still showing Pre-Shipment "but" fingers crossed it updates to In "Transit soon." After 10+ months of waiting, I m'trying not to get my hopes up too high but it s'hard not to be excited about any movement at this point!

Just went through this exact same thing! Got my USPS notification in November after filing in January and waiting forever. Mine stayed in "Pre-Shipment" for about 3 days before moving to "In Transit" - that's when I knew it was really happening. Ended up being my actual refund check! The waiting is brutal but hang in there. Pro tip: once it hits "Out for Delivery" status, that's when you can really celebrate 🎉 Really hoping this is your refund finally coming through!

@Mohammad Khaled Thanks for sharing your experience! It s'really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. 3 days in Pre-Shipment "doesn" t'sound too bad - I was worried it might be stuck there forever lol. Did you get any updates on WMR when it finally shipped out, or did the USPS tracking update first? I m'trying to figure out which one to obsessively check more 😅

Same thing happened to me back in October! Filed in February and got that exact same USPS notification after months of silence. Mine also showed "Pre-Shipment USPS Awaiting Item" for about 2-3 days before it moved to "In Transit." Turned out to be my actual refund check! The "Pre-Shipment" status just means the IRS has printed your mailing label and it's in their system, but they haven't physically handed it over to USPS yet. Once it switches to "In Transit" you'll know it's actually on its way. After waiting that long, I was so paranoid it would be another delay letter, but thankfully it was the real deal. Really hoping yours is too! The timing sounds promising since you've been waiting since February. Keep us updated when you get it! 🤞

@Connor O'Neill This gives me so much hope! 🙏 The fact that you filed in February too and got your actual refund makes me feel like maybe this really is it. I've been checking the USPS app every few hours since I got the notification - still showing "Pre-Shipment" but knowing it took 2-3 days for yours to move to "In Transit" helps me be more patient. After 10+ months of waiting and getting absolutely no updates, seeing ANY movement feels like a miracle. Really crossing my fingers this isn't just another "we need more time" letter! Will definitely update everyone once I know what it is 🤞

Crossing my fingers this is your actual refund! I've been in a similar situation - filed early and waited forever with zero updates. The USPS informed delivery notification is usually a good sign, especially after waiting that long. Even if it stays in "Pre-Shipment" for a few days, don't worry - that's normal. The IRS is notoriously slow at actually dropping mail off to USPS. Really hoping you get some good news when it arrives! Keep us posted - we're all rooting for you after that 10+ month wait! 🙏

@Yuki Ito Thank you so much for the encouragement! 💙 It really helps to know other people understand how nerve-wracking this whole process is. You re'right about the IRS being slow - I ve'definitely learned that the hard way over these past 10 months! I keep reminding myself that any movement is good movement at this point. Really appreciate all the support from everyone here - this community has been such a lifeline during this crazy long wait. Will definitely post an update as soon as I know what s'in that envelope! 🤞

Oh wow, this is giving me flashbacks to when I was waiting for mine! I filed in early February too and didn't get any movement until November. When I finally saw that USPS notification pop up, I literally screenshotted it because I couldn't believe it was real 😅 The "Pre-Shipment" status drove me crazy for about 4 days, but then it finally moved to "In Transit" and I knew it was happening. Mine ended up being the actual refund check! After waiting that long with zero communication from the IRS, that USPS notification was like seeing a unicorn. Really really hoping this is your refund and not just another delay letter. The timing seems right - they seem to be catching up on the February filers finally. Definitely keep checking that USPS tracking obsessively like the rest of us do lol. Fingers crossed for you! 🤞✨

@Omar Zaki OMG yes! I totally screenshotted mine too 😂 It s'crazy how after months of absolutely nothing, that little USPS notification feels like winning the lottery! 4 days in Pre-Shipment "sounds" about right based on what everyone else is saying. I m'trying so hard to stay calm but honestly I m'checking that app like every hour lol. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline - February filers unite! 🙌 Hopefully this means they re'finally working through our batch. Thanks for the good vibes! 🤞

I'm in a similar boat - filed in January and just got my first USPS notification yesterday! Mine also shows "Pre-Shipment USPS Awaiting Item" and I've been refreshing the app constantly 😅 After reading everyone's experiences here, it sounds like 2-4 days in "Pre-Shipment" is normal before it moves to "In Transit." Really hoping this is the breakthrough we've all been waiting for! The fact that so many February/early filers are finally getting movement gives me hope they're actually working through the backlog. Definitely keep us updated - we're all living vicariously through each other's progress at this point! 🤞

@Rachel Tao Yes! January filers getting movement too - that s'so encouraging! 🎉 It really does seem like they re'finally working through the early 2023 backlog. I ve'been refreshing that USPS app so much my phone probably thinks I work for the postal service lol. The waiting game is brutal but at least we re'all in it together! Really hoping both of ours turn out to be actual refund checks and not more delay letters. Keep me posted on when yours moves to In "Transit -" sounds like that s'the magic moment when we ll'know it s'really happening! 🤞✨

Just wanted to add my experience to help ease some anxiety - got a similar USPS notification back in September after filing in late January. The "Pre-Shipment" status lasted exactly 3 days before moving to "In Transit," and it ended up being my actual refund check! The waiting is absolutely torture, especially when you've been in limbo for so long with zero communication. But the fact that you're seeing movement at all after 10+ months is actually a really good sign. The IRS seems to be finally catching up with early 2023 filers. One thing I learned - don't panic if the tracking doesn't update for a few days. Their system is slow to reflect changes, but once it hits "In Transit" you can breathe a sigh of relief. Really crossing my fingers this is your refund finally coming through! The timing feels right based on what I've seen with other February filers lately. 🤞

@Jackson Carter This is exactly what I needed to hear! 🙏 The fact that yours was also a late January filing and turned out to be the actual refund check gives me so much hope. 3 days for Pre-Shipment "sounds" totally manageable - I was worried it might be stuck there forever! You re'so right about the communication blackout being the worst part. After months of absolutely nothing from the IRS, even seeing that little USPS notification feels like a miracle. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your timeline - it helps so much to know what to expect. Fingers crossed this is finally it! 🤞✨

This is so exciting! After waiting since February, any movement from the IRS feels like a Christmas miracle 🎄 I've been through this exact same situation - that "Pre-Shipment" status is nerve-wracking but it's actually a really good sign! Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like 2-4 days in that status is totally normal before it moves to "In Transit." I know the waiting is brutal, especially after 10+ months of radio silence, but the fact that you're finally seeing movement suggests they're working through the February backlog. Really hoping this is your actual refund check and not another delay letter! Pro tip: try to resist the urge to refresh the USPS app every 5 minutes (easier said than done, I know 😅). The tracking updates can be slow, but once it hits "In Transit" you'll know it's really happening. Keep us posted - we're all rooting for you! 🤞✨

@Lincoln Ramiro Haha you re'so right about resisting the urge to refresh every 5 minutes! 😅 I ve'already failed at that - pretty sure I ve'checked it like 20 times since yesterday. But hearing everyone s'positive experiences with similar situations is really helping calm my nerves. The fact that so many February filers are finally getting their refunds gives me hope that the IRS is actually making progress on the backlog. Really appreciate all the support and encouragement from everyone here! This community has been such a lifesaver during this endless waiting game. Will definitely update as soon as I know what s'in that envelope! 🤞🎄

I'm literally holding my breath for you! 🤞 Filed in March and still waiting with zero movement, so seeing your USPS notification gives me hope that maybe they really are working through the early 2023 backlog. That "Pre-Shipment" status is so nerve-wracking but based on everyone's stories here it sounds totally normal for 2-4 days. Really really hoping this is your actual refund check and not just another delay letter! After 10+ months you definitely deserve some good news. Please keep us updated - living vicariously through everyone's progress at this point! 🙏

@Sarah Ali I feel you so hard! 😭 March filers deserve answers too - this whole situation is just insane. The fact that we re'all still waiting from early 2023 is ridiculous but at least we have each other for moral support! I m'definitely keeping my fingers crossed that if this turns out to be good news, it means they re'finally getting their act together and March filers will start seeing movement soon too. Will absolutely post an update as soon as I know what s'in that envelope! Hang in there - we ve'made it this far, we got this! 💪✨

This is giving me so much hope! 🙏 Filed in early February and have been radio silent since then - literally ZERO updates from the IRS. Seeing your USPS notification after waiting since February makes me think maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel for us early 2023 filers! That "Pre-Shipment" status sounds promising based on what everyone else is sharing. I've been obsessively checking WMR and my transcripts with nothing to show for it, so getting ANY kind of movement through USPS would feel like a miracle at this point. Really crossing my fingers this is your actual refund check and not another delay letter - you've waited long enough! Please update us when you find out what it is! 🤞

@Maya Jackson I totally feel your pain! 😢 Early February filers have really been through it this year. The fact that you ve'been checking WMR and transcripts with zero updates is so frustrating - I ve'been doing the same thing obsessively. But seeing all these stories from people who filed around the same time and finally got their refunds through USPS notifications is giving me hope too! It really does seem like they re'finally working through our batch. Hopefully this means you ll'start seeing some movement soon too. We ve'all waited way too long for answers! 🤞

@Olivia Van-Cleve Thank you so much! 💙 It really does feel like maybe they re'finally making some progress on us early filers. The support from everyone here has been incredible - knowing we re'all going through the same thing makes the waiting a little more bearable. I m'trying not to get my hopes up too much but after 10+ months of absolutely nothing, even seeing that little USPS notification feels huge! I ll'definitely post an update as soon as I get the mail - crossing my fingers it s'good news for all of us who ve'been waiting since February/March! 🤞
