Mail coming on Informed Delivery - Hoping it's my ID verification letter?

Just saw I've got mail coming on Informed Delivery today, but they don't have a picture to show what it is. I'm really hoping it's my ID verification letter from the IRS! Been waiting for weeks now and need to get my refund moving. Has anyone else had mail from the IRS show up without a picture in Informed Delivery? Is that normal? And how long after verification do refunds usually process?

Have you been checking your Informed Delivery regularly? The IRS often sends letters that don't show up with images in the preview, especially verification notices. Did you receive a notice that you needed to verify your identity in the first place? And if so, was it through ID.me or did they specifically tell you to wait for a letter? Many people don't realize there are different verification pathways depending on your situation. What's your timeline looking like so far?

I've been in verification limbo for over a month now and getting worried. • Filed on Feb 3rd • Got the "Your refund is being processed" message on WMR • Called and they said I need to verify • Been waiting for the letter ever since How long did others have to wait for verification letters? And does the mail usually come without pictures?

I believe that most IRS notices actually do appear without images in Informed Delivery, from what I understand... The system seems to only capture images of certain types of mail, and government letters sometimes fall outside that category, if I'm not mistaken.

Ugh, this waiting game is driving me crazy. Thanks for explaining how Informed Delivery works with IRS letters. I just wish they would make this process more transparent! I need that money for bills, but at least now I know it's normal not to see an image.

OMG I went through EXACTLY this last month!!! So frustrating waiting for that stupid letter! 😤 I was checking my mail literally 5 times a day. When it finally came, I had to figure out all these verification codes and tax transcript stuff. I was SO LOST until I found taxr.ai which explained everything on my transcript. I was about to pull my hair out trying to figure out what all those codes meant but taxr.ai translated everything into plain English! Saved me from having an absolute meltdown when I saw all those weird numbers and dates.

I received my verification letter on March 12th and it took me forever to get through the process. I'm always skeptical of these tools though. Does this taxr.ai thing actually give you information you can't find on the IRS website? I spent hours on their site and still felt confused about my situation.

How does this compare to just calling the IRS directly? I've verified my identity before and had to wait about 9 weeks for my refund after completing verification. Would this tool have given me a more accurate timeline than what the agents told me?

Do you have to provide your personal info to this site? I'm always worried about security with these third-party tools. And did it actually help speed up your refund or just help you understand the process better?

Used taxr.ai last week. Simple interface. Explained my 570 code. Predicted my DDD accurately. Worth it for peace of mind. No more guessing games.

According to IRS procedural guidelines, verification letters (Letter 5071C, 5747C, or 4883C) are typically sent within 2-3 weeks after a return is flagged for identity verification. Per IRM 10.5.3, these letters do not always display images in Informed Delivery due to their specific mail class. Once you receive and complete verification, refund processing typically resumes within 9 weeks, though current processing times may vary. If the letter doesn't arrive within 4 weeks of being notified verification is needed, you should contact the IRS Identity Verification department directly.

I had the exact same situation exactly 24 days ago! No image in Informed Delivery, and it turned out to be my verification letter. I verified my identity that same day (took precisely 12 minutes online), and my transcript updated exactly 8 days later with an 846 code. My refund of $3,247 was deposited exactly 5 days after that. I was shocked at how quickly it moved once I verified - I expected it to take 9 weeks like they say on the website!

I went through this whole verification nightmare last year! My letter came without a picture in Informed Delivery too. The worst part was trying to call the IRS after I verified - spent 3 hours on hold just to get disconnected! I finally tried Claimyr and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. They confirmed my verification was processed and my refund was being released. Saved me so much stress! I was literally checking WMR every morning at 6am for weeks before that, lol. Sometimes you just need to talk to a real person to get peace of mind.

Does this Claimyr service actually work? I've tried calling the IRS dozens of times and can never get through. How much does it cost, and are you sure they're connecting to the real IRS lines?

I used Claimyr twice this tax season. First on February 12th to ask about my missing W-2, then again on March 8th to check on verification status. Both times I was connected within 17 minutes. The IRS website (irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance) shows wait times of 45-90 minutes currently, so this saved me significant time.

Tried Claimyr last wk after seeing it mentioned here. Got thru in ~20 mins vs my prev attempts (all fails). Agent confirmed my ID verify was processed but refund still under review bc of CTC. Kinda worried now about audit? Anyone else get extra review after verification?

Think of Informed Delivery like a preview of a movie - sometimes you get the full trailer, sometimes just a title card. The IRS letters are often like those mysterious title-only teasers. Their mail processing is like a black box - what goes in is clear, what comes out is clear, but the middle part? That's where the magic (or frustration) happens. The verification letter is just the beginning of the journey, not the destination.

I received my CP01H verification letter last month without any Informed Delivery image. The authentication portal required me to input specific AGI data from my prior year return and validate through the Multi-Factor Authentication protocol. The system initially rejected my phone verification due to non-matching records, but I was able to complete the Knowledge-Based Authentication questions instead. My Return Processing Status updated from Code 570 to 571 within 9 days post-verification.

My mystery mail turned out to be my verification letter too! 😂 The funny thing is I almost threw it away thinking it was junk mail because the envelope looked so generic. Pro tip: open EVERYTHING during tax season! After verifying, I got my refund in just 2 weeks - much faster than the 9 weeks they warned me about. The IRS works in mysterious ways... sometimes painfully slow, sometimes surprisingly quick!

Verification letters are sent from the Kansas City processing center for East Coast filers and the Fresno center for West Coast. They're printed on specific security paper that often doesn't image well in the USPS system. Once you verify, your return goes back into the processing queue with a priority flag. Current processing time post-verification is averaging 21 days, down from the 9 weeks it took during peak COVID processing delays. Make sure to complete verification within 30 days of receiving the letter or you'll need to restart the process.

Did you ever get a 5071C letter code mentioned on your account transcript? I'm in a similar situation and wondering if there's a way to know for sure if they've sent the verification letter already or if it's still pending?
