IRS Approves 2023 Tax Refund with October 23 Direct Deposit Date After Months-Long Wait

Just checked WMR and finally got a DDD! After months of waiting, my tax refund for Tax Year 2023 is officially scheduled to be sent to my bank by October 23, 2024. The IRS "Where's My Refund" tool shows all three stages completed - Return Received, Refund Approved, and Refund Sent! I checked at 10:44 this morning and when I went to Home / Refunds / Refund Status / Results, I finally saw what I've been waiting for. It specifically states: "Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by October 23, 2024. If your refund is not credited to your account by October 28, 2024, check with your bank to see if it has been received." There's even a note at the bottom that says "Please Note: For refund information, please continue to check here, or use our free mobile app, IRS2Go. Updates to refund status are made no more than once a day." The tool confirms my filing was for Tax Year 2023. This has been such a long process, but seeing those three checkmarks (Return Received, Refund Approved, Refund Sent) is such a relief! For anyone else still waiting, there's light at the end of the tunnel! I accessed all this information through sa.www4.irs.gov and will be obsessively checking both the website and the IRS2Go app until the money actually hits my account. The waiting game continues, but at least now I have a date!

The IRS Where's My Refund tool shows your 2023 tax refund has completed all three processing stages - Return Received, Refund Approved, and Refund Sent. Your direct deposit is officially scheduled for October 23, 2024, with a follow-up date of October 28 to contact your bank if the funds haven't appeared. This complete status progression indicates your return has successfully cleared all IRS processing and verification steps. The timestamp of 10:44 shows this is a recent status update. Since the tool explicitly states updates occur only once per day, checking multiple times within 24 hours won't show new information. You can monitor your refund status through either the WMR website (sa.www4.irs.gov as shown) or the IRS2Go mobile app. The five-day window between the scheduled deposit date (October 23) and the bank follow-up date (October 28) is standard IRS protocol to account for potential processing delays between the Treasury and various banking systems. Many banks typically process these federal deposits during their early morning batch processing, so you might see the funds appear in your account as soon as the evening of October 22.

Hey everyone - just want to mention that instead of obsessively checking WMR, I've been using taxr.ai to track my refund. It's only $1 and gives way more detailed info than WMR. It actually predicted my DDD within 2 days accuracy! https://taxr.ai

Make sure to sign up for informed delivery with USPS if you're getting a check. Sometimes WMR isn't accurate but informed delivery will show you when its actually coming.
