Finally Have a DDD on WMR After 'Still Processing' Since 2/3!
After what feels like an eternity of checking WMR and seeing that dreaded 'still processing' message since February 3rd, I FINALLY have a direct deposit date! 🎉 I was starting to think my refund had fallen into the IRS black hole, lol. Been checking religiously every morning with my coffee for the past 6 weeks. For anyone still waiting - there is hope! Any idea why some returns take so much longer than others? This is my first time filing with a side gig income, so maybe that's why? Just happy to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Congrats on getting your DDD! It's *probably* taking longer because of your side gig income, especially if you filed a Schedule C. The IRS tends to, you know, scrutinize self-employment income a bit more carefully sometimes? I'm still waiting on mine from early February, and I'm starting to get a little worried. Did you have any particular codes on your transcript before it updated?

Oh my gosh, I'm so happy for you! 😭 I'm still waiting since January 29th and I'm starting to lose my mind. Did you have any weird codes on your transcript before it updated? I have a 570 and I'm freaking out about it!

I'm still waiting too... filed on February 10th. Maybe I should check my transcript instead of just WMR? I'm trying not to worry too much, but I was really counting on that money for some car repairs.

Did you file electronically on February 3rd or was that when the IRS accepted your return? I filed on January 25th, accepted January 26th, and still nothing on April 15th. People who filed after me are getting their refunds already. The system makes no sense.

What's your cycle code on your transcript? Returns are processed in batches according to specific cycle codes, and the presence of Schedule C income (self-employment) typically triggers additional verification protocols. Also, did you claim any refundable credits like EITC or ACTC? Those automatically place returns under the PATH Act verification framework.

This is exactly right. When I had side gig income last year, my return took 8 weeks to process. Here's what happened: 1. Filed February 1st 2. Got a 570 code (additional account action pending) on February 20th 3. Received a 971 code (notice issued) a week later 4. Finally got my 846 code (refund issued) on March 29th The IRS verifies self-employment income more carefully, especially if it's your first time reporting it.

I was in EXACTLY the same boat last year with my first side gig! Filed Feb 1st, stuck on processing until mid-April. I finally got fed up and called the IRS, but spent 3 days trying to get through. Then I found Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) which got me connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out they just needed to verify my 1099 income, and the agent pushed it through while I was on the call. Got my DDD two days later! Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving.

Don't wait around if you need that money! The IRS is seriously backed up right now. Call them ASAP at 1-800-829-1040 between 7am-7pm local time. Have your 2023 return, social security number, and filing status ready. Ask specifically about any holds on your account. Tell them you've been waiting since February and need to know if there's an issue you can resolve. Don't take "still processing" for an answer!

According to IRS Publication 1345 Section 7.1, returns with self-employment income are subject to additional verification procedures, particularly for first-time Schedule C filers. I was in a similar situation and started getting worried about potential audits. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript, and it identified exactly which codes were causing the delay and what they meant for my specific situation. The analysis showed it was just standard verification, not an audit. I'm still waiting for my refund, but at least I understand what's happening now.

Six weeks is actually normal this year. I've seen worse. Many people waiting 8+ weeks. IRS is understaffed. Budget cuts. Political games. Glad you got your date finally.

Is this normal compared to previous years though? I feel like in 2019, before all the pandemic stuff, most people got their refunds within 2-3 weeks. Now it seems like everyone I know is waiting at least a month, and many much longer. Has the IRS ever recovered from the pandemic backlog?

PSA for anyone still waiting: DO NOT call the regular IRS number if ur transcript shows code 570/971 combo!!! They'll just tell u to wait 9 weeks! 😡 Call the Taxpayer Advocate Service instead at 877-777-4778. They can actually help if ur experiencing financial hardship bc of the delay. Learned this the hard way after wasting 3hrs on hold w/ regular IRS only to get disconnected TWICE!!! 🤬

Did your Where's My Refund status change directly from "Still Processing" to showing a deposit date, or did it go through the "Approved" stage first? The technical progression should be Return Received → Return Approved → Refund Sent, but sometimes the IRS system updates all at once, skipping the middle stage in the user interface.

Have you tried checking your tax transcript instead of WMR? Isn't that supposed to be more accurate and detailed? I've been checking WMR for weeks with no updates, but when I finally checked my transcript online, it already showed my refund was processed. Why doesn't the IRS sync these systems better?

What's happening here is that the Account Transcript updates first, then WMR updates later. When did you see your 846 code on your transcript? Typically, WMR updates 24-48 hours after the transcript shows an 846 code with your refund date.

I always check my transcript first at irs.gov/transcripts because WMR is so unreliable. Look for code 846 - that's your actual refund issued date. The transcript will show exactly what's happening with your return while WMR just shows a simplified status.

I've been filing taxes for 20+ years and never knew about checking transcripts until last year! Always just used WMR and wondered why it was so vague. Transcripts show everything - adjustments, holds, verification codes. Last year my WMR showed nothing but my transcript had all the info I needed.

Transcript access is definitely more informative than WMR. Here's what to look for: • Code 150: Return filed • Code 570: Processing hold • Code 971: Notice issued • Code 846: Refund issued The cycle code (last 2 digits) tells you which processing cycle you're in. 05 cycles update on Thursdays/Fridays, 02 cycles update on Mondays/Tuesdays.
